Apple CarPlay merges your car with your iPhone. It turns your car’s touchscreen into an extension of your phone’s touchscreen. Your most frequently-used apps appear as larger icons on the screen. More importantly, you can access them through voice commands.

How Does Apple CarPlay Work?

Apple CarPlay lets you make calls, send text messages using voice commands, listen to text messages, get turn-by-turn directions, control your music, and more, all without touching your iPhone.

Let’s face it — most of us are distracted by our phones as we drive. We all know the dangers of distracted driving. Enabling us to access our phones’ best features without taking our eyes off the wheel may be the best step automakers can take to make us safer behind the wheel.

Almost every major automaker now includes Apple CarPlay as standard or optional equipment. Many pre-2021 used cars for sale with Apple CarPlay require a wired connection. But in a growing number of 2021 and later cars, the connection is wireless.

Android users aren’t out of luck. The Android Auto system is easier to find every year. Many new cars offer both connections.
