2019 Ford Transit 150: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2019 Ford Transit 150 is a van that comes in either a panel-van style with as much as 128.6 cubic feet of maximum cargo space or a passenger van that seats up to fifteen people. The 2019 Transit comes with low roof, medium roof, and high roof options, and even a long-wheelbase and a long-wheelbase with extended length version. You can also opt for either a single-rear-wheel version or a dual-rear-wheel version, depending on your needs. That means a Transit is perfect for users from a small business to a large family. It’s useful for a multitude of applications, depending on the configuration.

There are three different engine options for the 2019 Transit. They include a 3.7-liter V6, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost v6, and a 3.2-liter diesel engine. The Transit comes standard with the 3.7-liter engine for the 2019 model year and it’s paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. New features for this model year include new color choices, more seating options for the passenger vans, and wider-opening rear doors on the long-wheelbase models. The 2019 Transit also gets new high-strength laminated side glass and a standard recovery eye hook across the lineup. The one major drawback of this model year is that there is no all-wheel-drive option offered. That doesn’t become an option until the 2020 model year.

While there are plenty of ways to configure the Transit, we’re going to focus on the passenger configurations here. There are cargo options as well. Competitors to the Transit include the Nissan NV, Ram ProMaster, and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Here’s what you need to know about the 2019 Transit Passenger Van.

The 2019 Ford Transit 150 XL Crew started at $34,630.

The most basic version of the 2019 Ford Transit Van is the XL trim. This trim level gets the 3.7-liter engine making 275 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. You also get a 4-speaker AM/FM stereo, 16-inch wheels and hubcaps, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, a rearview camera, and power windows and locks. You also get industrial-black front and rear bumpers with front lower valance and a rear step, and short-arm, dual power-side mirrors. Passenger models get tinted side windows. At this trim level, you get side curtain airbags as well as an SOS post-crash alert system and tire pressure monitoring system.

The XL trim can seat between 5 and 15 passengers depending on the wheelbase configuration.

Inside you get vinyl flooring, cloth interior, extended-length running boards, and options for a low roof, medium roof, and high roof (more on those below). Some come with sliding doors like those on a minivan, while some will come with 60/40 doors.

This trim comes standard with a 3.7-liter V6 engine that makes 275 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. That engine is married to a 6-speed automatic transmission. You could opt for the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 (twin-turbo) that puts out 310 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. You could also find a Transit van with a 3.2-liter I-5 turbo-diesel engine that makes 185 hp and puts down 350 lb-ft of torque. You can also opt to swap the engine to a CNG option as well.

On the safety front you get Ford’s AdvanceTrac system with roll stability control, driver and front passenger airbags, front-seat side airbags, and side curtain airbags. You also get an SOS post-crash alert system, power door locks with auto-lock, remote keyless entry, a capless fuel filler, and hill start assist. In addition, you get rearview cameras to help with backing up.

For Passenger XL vans you could opt for an interior upgrade package that would add cruise control, 4-way manual vinyl or cloth driver and passenger seats with armrests and driver’s manual lumbar, AM/FM stereo with CD player and a 4-inch display, rain-sensing windshield wipers, optional carpeted flooring, and illuminated visor mirrors.

You could also opt for the Low Roof (LR) with a total vehicle height of 83.6 inches, Medium Roof (MR) with a total vehicle height of 100.8 inches or High Roof (HR) trim increasing the exterior height to 110.1 inches. Ford says that the high roof can accommodate passengers as tall as 6-foot-4. This feature is especially relevant if you need passengers to be able to stand and walk to seats, or if you want to be able to stand and work inside the van.

There are also three lengths of Transit: Regular Wheel Base (RWB) which is 219.9 inches long, Long Wheel Base (LWB) which adds 19.8 inches of length, and finally, Extra Long Wheel Base (LWB-EL) which adds another 26.3 inches of length on top of that. The Extra Long Wheel Base version is 263.9 inches long and seats up to 15 people.
