2019 Honda Accord: Choosing the Right Trim

After a complete revamp in 2018, the 2019 Honda Accord is unchanged. Historically, the Accord has been competitive. However, this is even more true since its 2018 redesign. For example, it offers two turbocharged 4-cylinder engines and a hybrid (HEV) powertrain.

We like the Accord for its roomy and well-appointed interior, spirited engines, available hybrid powertrain, legendary resale value, and comprehensive driver-aid offerings.

Honda offers the Accord in several trim levels. However, the count varies depending on how you parse them. We’ve split out versions with the more powerful turbo or the hybrid powertrain, bringing the grade total to 12.

The standard engine for the LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, and Touring is a 192-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. It is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) in all but the Sport. In the Sport, a 6-speed manual (6MT) changes the cogs. With the CVT, the government-estimated mileage is 30 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway, and 33 mpg in combined driving. The numbers for the Sport with its 6MT are 26 mpg/35 mpg/31 mpg.

If you want all-wheel drive (AWD), you’ll need to shop the Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, or Subaru Legacy. The Accord is front-wheel drive (FWD) only.

We’ll detail the more powerful turbo and the HEV powertrain when we get there below.
