2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio: Choosing the Right Trim

Unless you consider a little shakeup in the trim levels for the 2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio a big change, the Stelvio returns pretty much unmolested.

Last year’s trim reshuffling left us with Sprint, Ti, Ti Sport, and Quadrifoglio as the four grades. For 2022, Alfa reduced the trim-level count to three, dropping the Sprint label in favor of the “Stelvio” base. It also completely jettisoned the Ti Sport, replacing it with a Veloce option package for the Ti.

So, as the dust settles, the 2022 trim-level lineup is Stelvio (base), Ti, and Quadrifoglio.

The Stelvio stakes out its niche, bridging the neutral zone between more accessible competitors like the Acura RDX, Lexus NX, and less affordable rivals like the Audi Q5 and BMW X3.

What the Stelvio brings to the compact-luxury party is a healthy dose of Italian flair. It looks like no other luxury SUV. It’s not, however, just a pretty face. It bears serious performance chops.

Power & Fuel Economy

Percolating under the hoods of the base and Ti grades is a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. It develops 280 horsepower and 306 lb-ft of torque. Regardless of trim, the only transmission available for the Stelvio is an 8-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

The base and Ti come with the Alfa Romeo DNA Drive Mode System. Its three selectable modes affect the engine, transmission, steering, suspension, brakes, and accelerator.

Natural, Dynamic, and All-Weather comprise the modes.

Able to scoot from a standstill to 60 mph in roughly five and a half ticks of a stopwatch, the turbo four-8-speed tranny combo returns gas mileage about average for the class.

Government estimates put its fuel economy at 22 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg in combined driving for the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) base Stelvio. It is the only Stelvio version with RWD.

All-wheel drive (AWD) is a $2,000 upcharge on the base grade and standard on the Ti and Quadrifoglio.

For the base AWD and the Ti AWD, government estimates for fuel economy barely change from RWD. The numbers are 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined.

We’ll discuss the Quadrifoglio’s powerplant in its trim description below.

2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio (starting at $44,750)

Highly equipped, the base Stelvio comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, Brembo front brakes, power-folding heated auto-dimming outboard mirrors, heated windshield-washer nozzles, and rain-sensing wipers.

Its other standard fare includes run-flat tires, auto-on-off Bi-Xenon headlights, LED taillights, LED daytime running lights, power rear liftgate, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Standard content inside includes dual-zone automatic climate control, 6-way power-adjustable heated front seats, leather seating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and keyless entry with push-button start.

The infotainment system’s standard features are an 8.8-inch touchscreen, an 8-speaker audio system, a navigation system, four USB ports, HD radio, and satellite radio capability.

Wireless charging, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto are also included in the base price.

Standard driver aids are adaptive cruise control, high-beam assist, forward-collision warning with emergency braking, blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, front-rear park assist, and lane-departure warning.

Hill-descent control and hill-start assist are also standard.

Each of the three trims offers a few factory options. You can add a panoramic dual-pane sunroof ($1,350) and the Active Driver Assistance Package ($1,000) to the base. It adds to the standard driver aids with Traffic Jam Assist, lane-keeping assist, and driver attention alert.

Adding the $1,595 destination fee to the base price brings the total to $46,345. With no money down for 60 months at 3% interest, financing works out to $833 per month. See 2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio models for sale

2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Includes:

  • DNA Drive Mode System – Allows the driver to select from three driving modes, which influence the engine, transmission, steering, suspension, brakes, and accelerator.

  • Infotainment system – It includes navigation, wireless charging, and an 8.8-inch touchscreen.

2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti (starting at $50,000)

Building on the base Stelvio, the Ti adds 19-inch alloy wheels, all-season tires replace the run-flats, oak wood interior accents, and the dual-pane panoramic sunroof.

Among the other standard content are headlight washers, and a hands-free power liftgate.

For $1,638, you can add the Ti Veloce package. It includes 20-inch alloy wheels, a limited-slip rear differential, A sport rear diffuser, aluminum interior accents, and aluminum paddle shifters.

Also in the Veloce package are a 115-volt power port and 8-way power-adjustable front sport seats with power-adjustable bolsters.

2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti Includes:

  • Dual-pane panoramic roof – The power-operated front pane can partially or fully open. The rear pane is fixed. A sunshade works independently of the roof panel. It, too, can be fully or partially opened.
  • Limited-slip rear differential – It’s a device limiting the amount of wheelspin when the drive wheels lose grip as power is applied.
  • Hands-free power liftgate – Simply by kicking your foot under the rear bumper with the key fob on your person, you can open or close the rear liftgate.

2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrafoglio (starting at $84,300)

A lot of the $34,000 separating the Ti from the Quadrifoglio (QF) is wrapped up in the engine. It’s a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, churning out 505 hp and 443 lb-ft of adrenaline-pumping torque.

Sprinting to 60 mph from a stop requires less than 4.0 seconds. Government estimates put the QF’s fuel economy at 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined.

Building on the Ti standard content, the QF adds 20-inch alloy wheels, an active suspension, the DNA Pro Drive Mode System, four-wheel Brembo brakes, 8-way power-adjustable front seats, and a carbon-fiber interior.

Also included in the QF content are a 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, 4-way driver’s power lumbar adjustment, upgraded sport leather seats, and torque vectoring.

Adding the $1,595 destination fee to the QF base price brings the total to $85,895. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to a monthly payment of $1,543. See 2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrafoglio models for sale

2022 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrafoglio Incudes:

Active suspension – Driver selectable, it monitors driving conditions and vehicle speed to stiffen or loosen the shock damping automatically.

DNA Pro Drive Mode System– Much like the DNA Drive Mode System in the base and Ti, the Pro version adds a fourth Race driving mode.

Torque vectoring – Based on the rear differential, its technology allows the drive wheels on the same axle to rotate at different speeds. It helps a car corner with less steering input.
