If you enjoy the ride and feel of a luxury sedan but need more versatility and light off-road capability, the 2022 Audi A6 Allroad may be just what you’ve been looking for. Not as tall or ubiquitous as a Q5 or Q7 SUV, the A6 Allroad stands out from the crowd, an attribute highly coveted by most luxury car buyers. With the loss of the Volvo V90 for 2022, the A6 Allroad has very little competition, save for its smaller A4 Allroad sibling and the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain Wagon.
The A6 Allroad is offered in only two trims, both employing a 335-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. A 7-speed automatic comes standard, as does an adaptive air suspension and quattro all-wheel drive.
2022 Audi A6 Allroad Premium Plus (starting at $66,900)
The 2022 Audi A6 Allroad Premium Plus starts at $66,900.
Most Audi trims start with a base Premium, but the A6 Allroad skips the entry-level model and gets right to the point. The Premium Plus is an exceptionally well-equipped wagon, with numerous option packages that make it even more alluring, not to mention more expensive.
The A6 Allroad’s handsome exterior is highlighted by the new Audi signature grille, flanked by matrix design LED headlights with built-in washers. Dark gray plastic cladding runs along the bottom of the front bumper and rocker panels and up and over the wheel arches. You can opt to have the trim painted to match the body, but we rather like the rugged look as is. LED taillights with dynamic lighting come standard, more or less just fancy blinkers that put on a bit of light show when activated.
The A6 Allroad rides on 20-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels and features chrome exterior window surrounds and roof rails. Power-folding and auto-dimming heated side mirrors, a dual-pane panoramic glass sunroof, and a hands-free power tailgate all come at no extra cost. Also included is Audi’s Advance Key proximity key fob that allows unlocking of the doors by touching the handle.
On the safety front, the A6 Allroad includes all the required occupant protection, including front, front side-impact, front knee, and front and rear side-curtain airbags. Audi goes a step further with standard rear-seat side airbags, electric rear window locks activated from the driver’s door armrest, and a direct tire-pressure monitoring system with readouts for each tire. Automatic high-beam headlights are also standard.
Audi driver-assist systems include Pre Sense Front (automatic emergency braking and forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection), Pre Sense Basic (automatically closes the windows and sunroof, plus tightens the front seat belts in expectation of a collision), front and rear parking sensors, and lane departure warning. More systems are available but at an extra cost.
Audi is known for its sumptuous and tech-filled interiors, and the A6 Allroad Premium Plus doesn’t disappoint. Leather seating is standard, as are 8-way heated power-adjustable front seats with 4-way driver’s seat power lumbar, a power tilt/telescoping heated steering wheel with shift paddles, and two-position memory for the driver’s seat, mirrors, and steering wheel.
The A6 Allroad also features a 3-zone automatic climate control system with rear seat vents and temperature control and a front console wireless charging pad.
Audi’s Virtual Cockpit places a 12.3-inch display where you’d expect to see analog gauges. The screen can replicate the look of a traditional tachometer and speedometer or change them to a digital readout. You can even fill the entire screen with a navigation map enhanced with Google Earth imagery (requires Audi Connect Prime subscription).
To the right of the cluster is a large 10.1-inch MMI touch screen covering infotainment duty. Just below an 8.6-inch touch screen handling climate, information, and system controls. Navigation comes standard, as does wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, plus SiriusXM with a 3-month trial subscription. Also included are Audi’s interactive apps Audi Connect Care, Prime, and Plus. Care is included with your purchase, while Prime and Plus come with a 6-month free trial, after which they require a subscription.
Audi Care includes essential features like SOS emergency assistance, remote unlocking of your vehicle, and vehicle location finder. Prime and Plus are more expensive pay services bringing things like extended Google Earth imagery, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Amazon Alexa integration to the car’s infotainment system. But be prepared, as Prime doesn’t come cheap. It’s $199 for six months or $499 for 18 months.
Enhancing the entire infotainment setup is a Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium sound system.
Audi’s Drive Select allows drivers to choose various modes affecting throttle input, steering feel, and transmission shift points. When in the Off-Road mode, the system activates the air suspension to raise the Allroad’s ride height.
Optional equipment for the Premium Plus includes the Executive Package that adds 4-zone climate control, active lane assist with emergency assist, adaptive cruise control with stop/go ability and Turn Assist that can stop the vehicle from making a turn if it senses oncoming traffic in the other lane. Also included are ventilated front seats with 4-way power lumbar, heated rear seats, multicolor ambient interior lighting, and manual rear window sunshades.
The Black Optic Package brings 20-inch dark silver diamond cut wheels and blackout treatment for the grille, window surrounds, roof rails, and front and rear bumper inserts.
Premium Plus buyers can opt for Audi Side Assist with Pre Sense Rear. Side Assist is a lane-changing assistant that will warn if a vehicle is driving in or approaching your blind spot quickly. If the driver activates the turn signal, an LED in the mirror will rapidly flash as a warning.
Pre Sense Rear works the same way as Pre Sense Basic, preparing the cabin for a possible rear-end collision by tightening the seatbelts, moving the seats to a more optimal position, and closing the windows.
With the $1,045 destination fee, the 2022 Audi A6 Allroad Premium Plus costs $67,945. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the Premium Plus’ monthly payment comes to $1,221. See 2022 Audi A6 Allroad Premium Plus models for sale
