2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD: Choosing the Right Trim

Anyone looking for a heavy-duty pickup should have the 2022 Chevy Silverado HD on their shopping list. Whether you need the towing and hauling capabilities of an HD truck or you just want a truck that’s large and in charge, this Chevy truck can satisfy.

Before we break down the trims, we should point out the different variants of the Silverado HD that are available. There’s the 2500 HD and the more capable 3500 HD, which are very similar when it comes to feature content, as we’ll spell out below. Here are the four different cab options available:

  • Regular Cab — A 2-door cab with a simple bench seat.
  • Double Cab — The Double Cab models have back seats that are accessible with small back doors.
  • Crew Cab — The Crew Cab has four full-size doors and a roomy back seat area.
  • Chassis Cab — You can get a Chassis Cab with either a Regular Cab or a Crew Cab. Chassis Cab models do not have a bed and are mainly for commercial use.

On top of the different cab options, there are also standard and long box options depending on how much cargo space you need. All 2500 models come with a single-rear-wheel configuration, while the 3500 trucks can be had with single-rear-wheel or dual-rear-wheel (“dually”) layouts. Like all trucks in this segment, rear-wheel drive is standard and 4-wheel drive is optional.

All trims of the 2500 and 3500 models are available with either a 6.6-liter gas V8 or a 6.6-liter Duramax turbo-diesel V8.

Without further ado, let’s get into the available trims for the Chevrolet Silverado HD and find the right truck for you. See 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 models for sale or See 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 models for sale

2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD Work Truck (Starts at $35,300)

The name of the Work Truck trim says it all. This is a no-nonsense truck made for work. A few practical features that add to the functionality of this truck include corner steps in the rear bumper, 12 cargo tie-downs, recovery hooks, an auto-locking rear differential, and a trailering package with hitch guidance.

While it’s pretty spartan, the Work Truck does have some creature comforts to make driving it more pleasant. It has air conditioning, a 7-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 2 USB ports, a backup camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

There’s a WT Safety Package available, which adds rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, blind-spot monitoring, and chrome bumpers. See 2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500 Work Truck models for sale or 2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD 3500 Work Truck models for sale

2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD Work Truck includes:

  • Hitch Guidance — This feature uses the backup camera to help guide you when hooking up a trailer without needing a human assistant.
  • Corner steps — Corner steps in the rear bumper make it much easier to access the truck’s bed.
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay — The standard 7-inch infotainment system comes loaded with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay so you can connect your smartphone.
  • Air conditioning — Even the most straightforward work truck in the Silverado HD lineup comes with air conditioning, which you’ll be grateful for on hot days.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD Custom ($39,700)

The equipment of the Silverado HD Custom is similar to the Work Truck, but it has a few notable upgrades. The Custom model is more stylish thanks to standard alloy wheels and high-gloss black bumpers. It’s also a little more ready for off-roading with standard all-terrain tires, which only come standard on the Custom and range-topping High Country trims.

It’s worth noting that the Custom trim is only available for the 2500 model. The Custom model is available with a Double Cab or Crew Cab, but not a Single Cab or Chassis Cab. See 2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500 Custom models for sale

2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD Custom includes:

  • High-gloss black bumpers — These bumpers give the Silverado HD a darker appearance making it stand out from the more humble Work Truck.
  • All-terrain tires — If you need a little extra off-road capability, then you’ll appreciate the standard all-terrain tires on the Custom trim.
  • Alloy wheels — Alloy wheels are a stylish upgrade over the steel wheels of the WT model.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado HD LT ($39,400)

The LT trim is a prudent choice for many HD truck shoppers. This mid-range model has excellent features available that make it a nice, practical truck while keeping the price reasonable. A few nice exterior touches like chrome bumpers and body-color door handles make it look a little more upscale than the lower trims. This is also where a Wi-Fi hotspot becomes standard, which can be helpful on the worksite.

Several option packages become available when you upgrade to the LT trim. There’s a Safety Package that adds rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change alert, and blind-spot monitoring. There’s also a Convenience Package that adds dual-zone climate control, a rear defogger, remote start, push-button start, a rear 12V power outlet, bucket seats with a power driver’s seat, and heated front seats. A Convenience Package II adds a 120V power outlet, a power up/down tailgate, an HD backup camera, and an SD card reader. Another way to get the HD backup camera is with the Advanced Trailering Package, which also adds a bed view camera.
