The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe is a large SUV with three rows of spacious seating, two available V8 engines, a torque-rich turbodiesel inline-6, and a cavernous cargo hold. Completely redesigned for the 2021 model year, the 2022 Tahoe receives some notable updates, such as more standard safety features and the wider availability of a 12-inch digital gauge display, and the range-topping 6.2-liter V8 engine.
The highly customizable build of the 2022 Tahoe makes it a great choice for SUV shoppers who need extra room or the grunt provided by this Chevy’s stout engine lineup. Maximum towing capacity is 8,400 pounds when properly equipped, and the Tahoe has the rare distinction of having seating for up to nine people when ordered with a front 40/20/40 split-bench seat.
Available in six trims — LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country — the Tahoe can be equipped as a roomy family hauler, to an off-roading adventure machine, or a near-luxury vehicle loaded with features like leather seating, an adaptive air suspension, power-operated running boards, heated second-row seats, and giant full-color 15-inch head-up display.
Because there are so many ways to configure a 2022 Tahoe, we’ve made things easier by breaking down the available powertrains and features across every trim. Let’s take a closer look at what the Tahoe has to offer SUV shoppers.
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe LS (starting at $49,700)
The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe LS is the entry-level model, but don’t expect a bare-bones SUV. With a starting price of nearly $50,000, excluding a $1,695 destination fee, the Tahoe is nicely equipped with several comfort, tech, and safety features before you start checking off option boxes.
There are two choices of engine, a 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8 or 277-hp 3.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-6. The LS is one of only two trims (including the LT) that buyers cannot order with the 420-hp 6.2-liter V8. No matter which engine you choose, the sole gearbox on offer is a 10-speed automatic. This smooth-shifting transmission makes the most of the available horsepower and torque available with each engine.
Like most of the Tahoe range, an LS shopper can choose between rear-wheel drive (RWD) and 4-wheel drive (4WD). It’s also the only trim buyers can spec with a 40/20/40 split-folding front bench seat, which helps boost total seating capacity to nine people. The rest of the Tahoe range has space for 7-8 onboard, thanks to front bucket seats and a choice of second-row bench or dual captain’s chairs.
The new-for-2021 Tahoe provided a big step forward in carving out more room for anyone seated in the third row and cargo space behind the rear-most seats. A new fully independent rear suspension is to credit for the roomier cabin and added trunk volume.
Space is equally ample in the front and second row, and the Tahoe continues to boast one of the most intuitive infotainment units among large SUVs. A 10.2-inch touch screen is standard across all Tahoe trims. It features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hot spot, HD radio, satellite radio, and a total of six USB ports throughout the cabin. Keyless entry, tri-zone climate control, remote start, and a power-operated driver’s seat are other perks that won’t cost you extra.
Of course, this doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to make even the base Tahoe LS more cosseting and safe for everyone aboard. For around $800, the Driver Alert package adds blind-spot monitoring, lane change alert, and rear cross-traffic alert. This is in addition to standard active safety features such as automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, front and rear parking sensors, rearview camera, automatic high-beam headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and GM’s Teen Driver system.
Other notable option groupings include the Max Trailering package and Performance Upgrade package; the latter includes a performance exhaust and upgraded air intake. Adding 4-wheel drive costs an additional $3,000, while the optional turbo-diesel commands a premium of around $1,045 over the 5.3-liter V8.
Stand-alone upgrades include wheels ranging from 18 to 22 inches in diameter, a roof rack with cross rails, several variations of roof-top tents for camping, an engine block heater, and much more. Short of the dizzying option sheets of full-size pickups like the Chevrolet Silverado, Ram 1500, and Ford F-150, there are few places where a car shopper can spend so much time creating their own personalized vehicle.
Should a Chevy SUV buyer keep the 2022 Tahoe at its base price (destination fee and excluded), financing for 60 months at a 3% interest rate with zero money down at signing equates to a monthly payment of $893. See 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe LS models for sale
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe LS includes:
- Seating – Optional front bench seat boosts capacity to nine.
- Safety – Front and rear parking sensors and lane-keep assist are now standard.
- Infotainment – Standard 10.2-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wi-Fi hot spot, and six USB ports.
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe LT (starting at $55,100)
While the Tahoe LS represents a solid value, we think it will lure many SUV shoppers to take at least one step up this Chevy’s range of trims. The 2022 Tahoe LT adds features like a 12-inch digital gauge display directly in front of the driver, plus popular items like leather front seats, wireless device charging, an auto-dimming mirror, heated front seats, limited-slip differential, and power-operated rear liftgate.
Like the LS, the Tahoe LT is available in RWD or 4WD format and has a choice of the 5.3-liter V8 or optional turbo-diesel inline-6. The diesel is easily the most fuel-efficient of the Tahoe’s available engines, with an EPA-estimated combined average of 24 mpg in a mix of city and highway driving. The two V8s can only muster 18 mpg (5.3-liter) or 17 mpg (6.2-liter) combined when all are in RWD configuration.
Adding 4WD to the Tahoe LT will run an extra $3,000.
A wider variety of option packages are available on the LT, such as the Rear Media and Nav Package, which, as the name suggests, comes with navigation and a twin-screen entertainment system for the second row.
There is also the Max Trailering Package, or the Luxury Package, which combines the safety-focused Driver Alert Package (blind-spot monitoring, lane change alert, etc.) with items like a surround-view monitor, heated steering wheel, heated outboard second-row seats, and power-folding third row.
Keep in mind that some option packages are unavailable at the time of writing due to the ongoing chip shortage affecting several cars, trucks, and SUVs.
In RWD format and kept to its base price, a 2022 Tahoe LT purchased with no down payment and financed for 60 months at 3% interest will ring in at $990 per month. See 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe LT models for sale
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe LT includes:
Entertainment – A dual touch screen rear entertainment system is optional.
More interior features – The LT comes standard with heated front seats and a wireless smartphone charging pad.
5.3-liter V8 or turbo-diesel – Like the LS trim, the 420-hp 6.2-liter V8 is unavailable.
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe RST (starting at $58,300)
Think of the 2022 Chevy Tahoe RST as the LT trim in sneakers and running gear. This is Chevy’s sporty take on the Tahoe, and, for the most part, the RST does a fine job in the role.
To start, the RST comes with blacked-out exterior trim and can be had with four choices of 22-inch alloy wheels. This is also the lowest trim to include the 420-horsepower 6.2-liter as an option, in addition to the standard 5.3-liter V8 and turbo-diesel 6-cylinder. While the larger V8 gives the Tahoe RST the urge to match its mildly aggressive exterior, fuel mileage is not something you’ll want to talk about in polite company.
Once again, pricier add-ons include the Driver Alert Package, the Luxury Package, and Rear Media and Nav Package. To pick and choose among single-item options, you can always opt for features like polished exhaust tips, a panoramic sunroof, or a vast range of hitch mounts and receivers for towing duty.
With the base price as our guide, a 2022 Tahoe RST buyer who finances for 60 months at a 3% interest rate, and with no cash down at signing, will end up paying $1,048. See 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe RST models for sale
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe RST includes:
- Sporty exterior – Black exterior trim and large 22-inch wheels give the RST an edge.
- Larger V8 – For the 2022 model year, enthusiasts can finally have the RST with the 6.2-liter V8.
- Familiar option packages – The RST has nearly the same available option packages as the Tahoe LT trim.
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 (starting at $60,300)
2022 Tahoe shoppers who intend to take their SUV off-road should consider the Z71 trim. This is the only variant that comes standard with 4-wheel drive, not to mention the full roster of three available engines.
With off-road driving in mind, the Z71 is fitted with underbody skid plates, beefed-up suspension components, a 2-speed transfer case, hill descent control, red tow hooks, 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, black-painted tubular side steps, and an upgraded air filter system.
The Z71 can also be upgraded to an adaptive air suspension for a smoother and more controlled ride on paved roads and when traveling off the beaten path.
An option grouping unique to this trim is the Z71 Off-Road Package. This combines content from the Luxury Package, Max Trailering Package, and the Off-Road Capability Package, adding features like adaptive ride control and air suspension. With a cost over $5,000, the Z71 Off-Road Package isn’t cheap, though it’s definitely extensive and adds loads of useful features.
Once again, remember that some trims and options will be difficult to source given current production delays.
Starting at $60,300, a 2022 Tahoe Z71 would cost $1,084 per month with no zero down at signing and financed for 60 months with 3% interest. See 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 models for sale
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 includes:
Off-road driving – The Z71 comes with underbody skid plates, all-terrain tires, and upgraded suspension.
Controlled ride – The available air suspension provides a smooth and nicely controlled ride during on- and off-road adventures.
Four-wheel drive – This is the only Tahoe trim that comes with standard 4WD.
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Premier (starting at $63,100)
We’re nearly at the highest rung of the Tahoe trim ladder. The 2022 Tahoe Premier takes things up another notch in terms of comfort and tech touches by adding upgraded leather seating, ventilated front seats, standard 20-inch alloys with all-season tires, navigation, and the active safety features found in the Driver Alert Package.
The Premier also lets you add niceties such as a panoramic power sunroof, rear camera mirror with its own washer nozzle, trailer brake controller, and adaptive cruise control. Most of these options are included in groupings like the Premium Package and Premium Package 2.
Anyone with cowboy aspirations might be interested in the Texas Edition, a cosmetic upgrade that comes with 22-inch polished alloys, wheel locks, exterior badging, and a cargo bed full of armadillos.
We just wanted to make certain you were paying attention – no, armadillos are not optional on the 2022 Tahoe.
Financing a 2022 Tahoe Premier for 60 months with a 3% interest rate with nothing down would equal a monthly payment of about $1,134. See 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Premier models for sale
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Premier includes:
- Safety – The Tahoe Premier comes standard with the safety items found in the Driver Alert Package.
- Powertrain choice – The Premier is offered with all three engines and a choice between RWD and 4WD.
- Texas Edition – A cosmetic option package that comes with 22-inch wheels and “Texas Edition” exterior badging.
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe High Country (starting at $70,000)
Perched atop the Tahoe lineup is the High Country. Available with either the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel or 6.2-liter V8 in RWD or 4WD format, the High Country is brimming with perforated leather seating, head-up display, magnetic ride control (w/optional air suspension), surround-view camera, reverse automatic emergency braking, and rear camera mirror.
The High Country Deluxe Package costs approximately $5,600 and includes air suspension, a power-sliding center console, a panoramic sunroof, power-retractable side steps, and the Max Trailering Package.
Other notable add-ons include a handful of 22-inch alloy wheel designs, along with the rear-seat entertainment system with dual touchscreens.
Using its base price of $70,000 as a guide, a 2022 Tahoe High Country financed for 60 months at 3% interest with nothing down would cost about $1,258 each month. See 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe High Country models for sale
2022 Chevrolet Tahoe High Country includes:
- Smooth suspension – Magnetic ride control is standard.
- Cabin upgrades – Perforated leather trim is used throughout the High Country cabin.
- A better view – The High Country comes standard with a surround-view camera and a 15-inch head-up display unit for the driver.
