The 2022 Ford EcoSport holds a strong resemblance to the rest of the Ford SUV family, helping it stand out from competitors like the Mazda CX-3, Hyundai Kona, and Honda HR-V.
Regardless of trim, your EcoSport will be powered by a 166-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder sending power to all four wheels via Ford’s Intelligent 4WD system.
The EcoSport has a fun attitude and cool features, but advanced driver-assist systems and stellar fuel economy are not among them. With pricing on par with other subcompact SUVs, we suggest you do your homework to ensure this little SUV gives you the best bang for your buck.
2022 Ford EcoSport S (Starting at $21,990)
The entry-level EcoSport S is a pretty basic vehicle, but this might be the perfect subcompact crossover for those who don’t need fancy audio systems or flashy interiors.
A quick walk-around reveals 16-inch alloy wheels, variable intermittent front wipers, a rear wiper/washer, and power side mirrors with integrated blind-spot mirrors.
Safety system above the required airbags, traction and stability control, and anti-lock brakes include a rearview monitor, automatic on/off headlights, hill start assist, and Ford’s SOS Post Crash System. SOS can alert others nearby that you’ve had an accident and need help by flashing the lights and honking the horn.
The EcoSport also comes with Ford’s MyKey. This programmable key fob allows parents to monitor their kids driving habits, limiting speed and audio volume and making sure seatbelts are on and the posted speed limit observed.
On the comfort and convenience side, you’ll find remote keyless entry, power windows with one-touch driver up/down, power door locks, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with controls for audio, cruise, and Bluetooth.
The seats feature a simple but durable fabric, and although manually operated, we’re happy to see the driver gets manual lumbar support. You can fold down the 60/40 split rear seats, or if you need a more level floor, the seat bottom pulls up to let the seatback lay flat.
Manual single-zone air conditioning keeps the cabin comfortable, and there are numerous cup holders and storage bins along with two 12-volt outlets (one in the console and one in the cargo bay).
Finally, the EcoSport S comes with Ford’s SYNC infotainment setup. It includes a 4.2-inch LCD, MP3 compatibility, AM/FM stereo with six speakers, and FordPass Connect that gives access to additional apps as well as a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Sorry Apple and Android phone users, if you want CarPlay or Auto, you’ll have to move up to the SE trim.
Optional equipment is limited to a few items, most notably Ford’s keyless entry keypad, remote start, a body decal package, and a cargo management system.
With the $1,245 delivery fee, the 2022 Ford EcoSport S costs $23,235. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to $418. See 2022 Ford EcoSport S models for sale
