The 2022 Ford Edge is a proven 2-row, 5-passenger SUV offering a wide array of trims and features ranging from simple to sporty.
For the model year 2022, Ford makes all-wheel drive standard, a move adding about $2,000 over the 2021 Edge base price.
The Edge derives power from a 250-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and 8-speed automatic transmission, which does a good job providing brisk acceleration and respectable fuel economy. The top-of-the-line ST trim gets a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 good for a whopping 335 hp. A 7-speed automatic comes standard on the ST.
Though it may look good on paper, the Edge is starting to show its age, with newer competitors like the Hyundai Santa Fe and Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport offering a superior ride, handling, and overall interior quality.
2022 Ford Edge SE (starting at $34,905)
The 2022 Ford Edge SE poses here in Iconic Silver.
The base Edge SE is a great way to get standard all-wheel drive and basic features without breaking the bank. You won’t find fancy audio upgrades, advanced navigation, or ventilated seats, but the Edge does have everything you need to be comfortable and safe.
The 2022 Ford Edge SE comes standard with Ford’s Co-Pilot360 suite of driver assists. The package includes a rearview camera with a lens washer, automatic high-beam headlights, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and forward-collision warning. Co-Pilot360 also features a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and lane-departure warning. Wiper-activated automatic headlights, rear parking sensors, and hill start assist are also standard.
Of course, the Edge comes with all required safety features, such as electronic traction and stability control, anti-lock brakes, and full airbag coverage (front, front side-impact, knee, and front and rear side curtains). Other thoughtful touches include individual tire pressure monitoring, the SOS Post-Crash Alert system (flashes lights and honks the horn to alert others you’ve been in an accident), and torque vectoring, a system designed to improve handling by preventing understeer in tight turns. Ford’s MyKey programmable key fob allows parents to monitor their teen’s driving habits, with settings that govern top speed, radio volume, seat belt use, and speed limit observation.
A look at the Edge SE’s exterior reveals active grille shutters, body-colored bumpers and door handles, a rear spoiler, LED low-beam headlights, rear privacy glass, and 18-inch aluminum wheels. The SE gets power side mirrors, a rear wiper/washer, variable intermittent front wipers, and a tire inflator kit with sealant in place of a conventional spare tire. Ford’s Intelligent Access allows you to unlock and start the vehicle without having to remove the key fob from your purse or pocket.
The Edge SE’s interior is pleasant but maybe not what you’d expect of a car priced in the mid $30,000 range. The cloth seats are attractive and comfortable, but both driver and passenger seats are manually operated with no lumbar support for the passenger. The 60/40 split-folding rear seat does recline and includes a folding center armrest.
Other amenities include power door locks, front power windows with a one-touch up/down feature, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with audio, Bluetooth, and cruise control controls. Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard, as are rear-seat air vents. A few welcome surprises include power windows that open using the key fob, lighted visor vanity mirrors, a 12-volt outlet in the cargo bay, and dual configurable 4.2-inch color displays inside the instrument cluster.
The SE gets the latest SYNC4 infotainment system, with a massive 12-inch touch screen and faster processors for improved performance. The system includes a 6-speaker AM/FM radio, SiriusXM 360L satellite radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, A and C USB ports, and casual voice command recognition. For a fee, SE owners can add various services via FordPass Connect, including a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
For the record, the touch screen also houses the controls for climate, and on higher trims, options like heated and ventilated seats. There are no hard buttons or knobs for these features, although the audio system does have a physical volume and tuning knob.
The SE isn’t big on options, but you can opt for the Black Appearance Package that includes 19-inch gloss black wheels, black badges, a black grille and grille surround, black mirror caps, and body-colored bumpers.
Standalone options include upgraded wheels, a compact spare tire, a roof rack, and Stone Blue Metallic paint.
With the $1,245 destination fee, the 2022 Ford Edge SE costs $36,150. On a 60-month loan with zero down and 3% financing, the SE’s monthly payment comes to $650. See 2022 Ford Edge SE models for sale

2022 Ford Edge SEL (starting at $37,345)
The 2022 Ford Edge SEL is shown driving in Metallic Yellow.
If we were shopping for the value leader in the Edge lineup, we’d pick the SEL. It offers more standard features and option packages but remains well under $40,000 when nicely equipped.
The SEL adds ActiveX seat fabric to the SE’s standard roster, a 10-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar and recline, and a 4-way power passenger seat. Heated front seats and rear seatback release levers in the cargo bay are also part of the SEL’s upgrades, as is a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Heated side mirrors with body-colored caps and 18-inch split-spoke wheels are also standard.
The SEL opens the door to a set of desirable option packages, starting with Co-Pilot360 Assist. This upgraded Co-Pilot suite brings adaptive cruise control with stop/go and lane centering and Connected Navigation with live traffic updates and predictive routing. The package also adds Evasive Steering Assist, which can increase steering input when avoiding a possible collision.
A Convenience Package adds fog lights, a perimeter alarm, a power liftgate, remote start, a wireless charging pad, a 110-volt outlet, a universal garage door opener, and the SecuriCode keypad locking and unlocking system.
New this year is the Adventure Package. It includes 18-inch Carbonized Gray-painted wheels, Navy Pier seating with orange stitching, lower front bumper in Carbonized Gray, plus black roof racks, mirror caps, and grille bars.

2022 Ford Edge ST-Line (starting at $41,095)
The ST-Line is a sportier version of the Edge, with much of the look and features in the pricier ST, but not the high-output twin-turbocharged engine. It’s a great way to get a sportier-looking Edge but still retain good performance and fuel economy while saving a few thousand dollars in the process.
The ST-Line includes all the features found in the SEL’s Convenience Package, then adds ActiveX seats with faux-suede inserts and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching. Red stitching also adorns the armrest, console lid, floor mats, and ST inserts.
The ST-Line differs from the SEL with a sportier exterior featuring 20-inch gloss black wheels, black beltline moldings, unique black front, and rear lower fascias, and LED signature lighting with dark bezels.
Option packages mirror those of the SEL, minus the contents of the Convenience Package already included.
With the $1,245 destination fee, the 2022 Ford Edge ST-Line costs $42,340. With zero down, the monthly payment on a 60-month loan at 3% financing comes to $761. See 2022 Ford Edge ST-Line models for sale
