- Returning basically unchanged, the 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid coasts into showrooms at the top of its game.
- The Accord enjoyed some updates in 2021. Consequently, Honda decided to leave well enough alone.
- Honda also produces gasoline-only variants, which we detail separately.
Competing among some good company, the Accord Hybrid battles with the Toyota Camry Hybrid and Hyundai Sonata Hybrid for attention. The Accord Hybrid doesn’t quite measure up to the mileage of either of those competitors but has its own set of attributes.
We like the Accord Hybrid for its solid fuel economy, wide-open interior spaces, comfy ride, advanced technology, and affordable price. Also appreciated is its consistently high resale value.
Deep-sixing last year’s EX grade, Honda christened the Sport trim level to replace it.
Honda breaks down the Accord Hybrid into four trims: Hybrid, Sport, EX-L, and Touring.
Our pick among the trims is the EX-L. Our primary reason for choosing it over the Sport is the addition of blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. We think that, along with the other added goodies, makes the EX-L a better deal.
No matter the grade, the power source is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and two electric motors. The main motor sits on the front axle to help rotate those wheels. The second is a starter/generator motor.
When combined, the engine and main motor deliver 212 horsepower.
An automatic transmission with three driver-adjustable modes fills out the powertrain roster.
The Accord Hybrid is front-wheel drive (FWD).
According to the government estimates, the Hybrid and EX-L earn fuel-economy ratings of 48 miles per gallon in the city, 47 mpg on the highway, and 47 mpg combined.
For the Sport and Touring trims, the numbers drop to 44 mpg city/41 mpg highway/43 mpg combined.
