The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid returns unchanged.
Although it isn’t the most compelling entry in the hybrid-car arena, the Ioniq Hybrid offers solid value, excellent fuel economy, and that terrific 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
To generate power, the Ioniq Hybrid draws on a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson-cycle engine in league with a 32kW electric motor. This collaboration generates a combined 139 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque.
A 6-speed automatic transmission sends the powertrain’s output to the front wheels.
The government-estimated fuel economy is rated up to an impressive 58 miles per gallon in the city, 60 mpg on the highway, and 59 mpg in combined driving.
Hyundai offers the Ioniq Hybrid in Blue, SE, SEL, and Limited grades.
2022 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid Blue (starting at $23,600)
Despite the Blue grade being the entry-level trim, Hyundai included a few sought-after convenience items and driver aids.
The standard content includes 15-inch alloy wheels, active grille shutters, auto on-off headlights, keyless entry with push-button start, cruise control, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Other features included in the base price are a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and a 60/40 split-folding backseat.
Included in the infotainment system are an 8-inch touchscreen, hands-free Bluetooth, USB, a 6-speaker audio system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration.
Among the standard driver aids are forward-collision warning with emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, driver-attention warning, and high-beam assist.
You can add a few dealer-installed accessories, but the Ioniq Hybrid doesn’t offer any options for any of its trim levels.

- Auto on-off headlights – Using photosensors, the system turns on the headlights (and taillights) when it senses daylight fading. It turns them off when daylight reappears.
- Dual-zone auto climate control – Allows setting separate temperatures for the left and right regions of the cabin. It then automatically maintains those temperatures.
- High-beam assist – A forward-pointed camera monitors what’s ahead. The default when engaged is the high beams are on. When it senses approaching headlights or taillights, it automatically disengages the high beams.

Building on the Blue grade’s standard content, the SE adds regenerative braking, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and LED daytime running lights.
Other standard features include integrated turn-signal indicators on the outboard mirrors, heated outboard mirrors, a 10-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
Among the rest of the standard gear are the Blue Link connected car service, HD
Radio, satellite-radio capability, a 7-inch LCD instrument cluster, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.
