Jeep remains mum on any sweeping changes to the 2022 Jeep Cherokee. We don’t expect any because historically, Jeep doesn’t usually make big changes between generational redesigns.
Often those generational redesigns are as much as 10 years apart. We’ll see the next generation around the 2023 or 2024 model year if that holds for Cherokee.
Between redesigns, Jeep occupies itself tweaking the grade lineup – subtracting, adding, and rearranging trim levels. Keeping track from year to year can be an adventure.
For 2022, the Cherokee trim-level lineup is Altitude, Latitude Lux, Cherokee X, Limited, and Trailhawk.
Altitude and Latitude Lux are front-wheel drive (FWD) with 4-wheel drive (4WD) available as a $1,500 option. The remaining grades have standard 4WD.
Because the compact SUV arena is a bustling segment, there is no shortage of rivals against Cherokee. They include the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Santa Fe, Subaru Forester, and many more.
We like Cherokee for the offroad prowess of 4WD versions, its unique styling, and the available turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.
Power & Fuel Economy
Standard in the FWD and 4WD Altitude is a 180 horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine.
All Cherokee models hustle engine output to the wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Standard in all other trims, including the FWD Latitude Lux, is a 271-hp 3.2-liter V6 engine.
Optional ($695) in the FWD and 4WD Latitude Lux and the Limited is a 270-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.
By government estimates, the FWD Altitude delivers 22 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway, and 25 mpg in combined driving. Opt for 4WD, and those numbers are 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined.
The FWD Latitude Lux with its 3.2L V6 gets 20 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined. Fuel economy for 4WD versions with the V6 is 19 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.
According to the government, the FWD Latitude Lux with the optional 2.0L turbo delivers 23 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. 4WD models drop back to 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined.
2022 Jeep Cherokee Altitude (starting at $27,995)
The 2022 Jeep Cherokee Altitude starts at $27,995.
Altitude comes with 17-inch aluminum wheels, air conditioning, and LED exterior lights (auto on-off headlights, taillights, and daytime running lights).
Also included are LED fog lights, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated outboard mirrors with integrated turn signals, and a heated steering wheel.
Heated front seats, a 3.5-inch mono driver-information display, hill-start assist, and keyless entry with push-button start are standard.
Also included are rain-sensing wipers, remote start, cruise control, a tilt-telescopic steering wheel, and a windshield wiper de-icer.
Making up the infotainment system are Uconnect 4, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, a 6-speaker audio system, and satellite radio capability.
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, voice recognition, and Wi-Fi hotspot capability are also standard.
The driver aids are forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, rear-park assist, and blind-spot monitoring.
Rear cross-traffic alert and lane-departure warning are included, as well.
The basic optional 4WD upgrade is the Active Drive I ($1,500). It operates as do many all-wheel-drive systems. That is, it’s a full-time automatic system that seamlessly shifts in and out of 4WD as needed.
Jeep offers options on all Cherokee grades. For example, the $2,145 Sun and Sound Group includes a power panoramic sunroof and a 9-speaker Alpine audio system.

2022 Jeep Cherokee Altitude includes:
LED exterior lighting – This includes headlights with auto on-off, taillights, and daytime running lights (DRLs). It also includes front fog lights. LEDs illuminate a wider and longer area than regular incandescent lights. That means they are also easier for other drivers to see.
Rain-sensing wipers – When the system senses moisture on the windshield, it automatically engages the wipers. The wiper speed adjusts according to the volume of the rain.
Driver aids – Featured driver aids are forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
2022 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Lux (starting at $33,195)
The 2022 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Lux starts at $33,195.
To the Altitude, Latitude Lux adds the 3.2L V6, a 115-volt power outlet, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 7-inch color driver information display.
Also included are an 8-way power-adjustable passenger seat, a power rear liftgate, leather-trimmed front bucket seats, and a security alarm. An auto-dimming rearview mirror is standard, as well.
Active Drive I is the 4WD option.

2022 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Lux includes:
V6 engine – This 3.2-liter V6 generates 271-hp and 239 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, it can tow 4,500 pounds.
Dual-zone automatic climate control – A set-it-and-forget-it system divides the vehicle into left and right regions. It provides separate temperature settings for each region. Once set, it automatically maintains the preset temperatures.
Power liftgate – Opening with a button push, this liftgate also includes a height adjustment.
2022 Jeep Cherokee X (starting at $32,635)
The 2022 Jeep Cherokee X starts at $32,635.
The most affordable 4WD Cherokee, the X is actually the entry-level grade. However, because of its standard 4WD and 3.2-liter engine, it costs more than the FWD Altitude and Latitude Lux.
It comes standard with the 3.2L V6 and Active Drive I. Otherwise, it’s equipped much like the Altitude.
However, it loses the power-adjustable driver’s seat, the front fog lights, heated front seats, and the heated steering wheel. Also missing are the rear-park assist, keyless entry with push-button start, remote start, and windshield wiper de-icer.
Along with the AWD, it adds the Selec-Terrain System.

2022 Cherokee Limited (starting at $37,945)
The 2022 Cherokee Limited starts at $37,945.
Limited is the most luxurious Cherokee trim.
To the Latitude Lux, Limited adds 4WD, Selec-Terrain, 18-inch aluminum wheels, adaptive cruise control, and high-beam assist.
Memory for driver’s seat and outboard mirrors, parallel/perpendicular parking assistance, and a 9-speaker Alpine audio system are included.
Also standard is a power panoramic sunroof.
Because the Alpine audio system and sunroof are standard, Limited loses the Sun and Sound Group. However, it offers other options like the Elite Package ($1,695). It contains 19-inch aluminum wheels, chrome tow hooks, navigation, a hands-free power rear liftgate, a heated second-row seat, and more.

2022 Jeep Cherokee Limited includes:
Parking assistance – This system helps the driver steer into either a parallel or perpendicular parking space, automatically braking when required.

The 2022 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk starts at $36,795.
If intense off-roading is your jam, the Trailhawk is the Cherokee grade for you. It comes with what Jeep calls Active Drive Lock. That is to say, it comes with a 4-Lo gear and a locking rear differential to ensure the rear wheels spin at the same speed.
Basically, Trailhawk builds on Latitude Lux. It does lose the power-adjustable passenger seat, the leather front bucket seats, and the auto-dimming rearview mirror.
To Latitude Lux, it adds 17-inch aluminum wheels, cloth/vinyl bucket seats, a front skid plate, a fuel tank skid plate, and hill-descent control.
Also included are an off-road suspension, a rear bumper skid plate, a transmission skid plate, red tow hooks, Selec-Terrain, and Selec-Speed Control.
Jeep offers some of the lost features in the Technology Group ($1,245). It comes with adaptive cruise control, high-beam assist, and a parking assistance package.
Dropping another $2,545 gains you the Sun, Sound & Nav group. It provides the Alpine audio system, panoramic sunroof, and navigation.

2022 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk includes:
