2022 Kia Niro EV: Choosing the Right Trim

Kia returns its Kia Niro EV unchanged for 2022, but now it is available in all 50 states.

It also doesn’t offer it with all-wheel drive (AWD).

It offers solid interior space, user-friendly technology, and a government-estimated range of 239 miles.

Kia also offers a Niro hybrid (HEV) version and a Niro plug-in hybrid (PHEV). We discuss them in detail elsewhere.

The electric motor develops 201 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) assesses vehicles that can run on battery power alone with a formula called miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe).

The estimated fuel economy for the Niro EV is 123 MPGe in the city, 102 MPGe on the highway, and 112 MPGe in combined driving.

Separating the Niro EV into two trim levels, Kia offers it as the EX and EX Premium.

Neither grade offers any factory options.

In the value context of content versus price, we recommend the EX grade.

2022 Kia Niro EV EX (Starting at $39,990)

The EX comes loaded with standard content, including 17-inch alloy wheels, auto-on/off projector-beam headlights, and fog lamps.

Heated power-folding outboard mirrors with integrated turn signals are included.

Also standard is a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry with push-button start, and remote start.

The infotainment features include a 10.3-inch touchscreen, an 8-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system, and Bluetooth with voice recognition.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard.

The driver aids are forward-collision warning with emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

High-beam assist and navigation-based smart cruise control are also standard. This adaptive cruise control adjusts the car’s maximum speed according to posted speed limits. It also slows the vehicle as it enters a curve.

Kia’s Highway Driving Assist semi-autonomous driver-assist system is also standard.

Adding the $1,175 destination charge to the Niro EV EX base price totals $41,165. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to $740 per month. See 2022 Kia Niro EV EX models for sale

Highway Driving Assist – This is Kia’s semi-autonomous system to help drivers steer, accelerate, and brake the vehicle.

Harman Kardon audio – This 8-speaker system includes a subwoofer and HK’s Clari-Fi audio rebuilding technology.

Dual-zone automatic climate control – A set-it-and-forget-it system, it divides the vehicle into left and right regions. It provides separate temperature settings for each region. Once set, it automatically maintains the preset temperatures.

2022 Kia Niro EV EX Premium (Starting at $44,650)

To the EX standard content, the EX Premium adds a power sunroof, LED taillights, ventilated front seats, LED interior lighting, and rear-park assist.

It also includes a cold-weather package with battery heater, heat pump, and heated steering wheel.

Adding the $1,175 destination feet to the EX Premium base price brings the total to $45,825. Financing that amount with no money down for 60 months at 3% interest works out to a monthly payment of $823. See 2022 Kia Niro EV EX Premium models for sale

FAQ

With Level 2 charging, it takes about 10 hours to fully charge the EV battery in the Niro EV.
