Think of the 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport as the smaller brother of the Discovery.
Shorter and a little less off-road capable than the Discovery, the Sport model is also less expensive but still offers much of the technology and cachet that makes Land Rovers so appealing.

2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport S/S R-Dynamic (starting at $42,375)
The Discovery Sport S trim is a 2-row, 5-passenger crossover vehicle. It has a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and 18-inch wheels.
The engine develops 246 horsepower, which is directed to all four wheels (all-wheel drive – AWD — is standard) via a 9-speed automatic transmission.
There is an optional third seat row for $1,200, but we would not recommend it for anything other than small children. Also when raised, the third row seat severely limits cargo space.
Outside, the S trim comes with a powered tailgate, LED head and tail lights, power-folding and heated door mirrors, and automatic headlights.
The interior is well equipped with leather seats, heated front seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, sliding second-row seat with 60/40 split-folding ability, 6-speaker audio system, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
In front of the driver there is a 7-inch instrument screen. A 10-inch touchscreen is mounted in the center of the dashboard, which can display a 360-degree, birds-eye view of the vehicle.
Standard safety features include lane-keep assist, front/rear parking assist, driver condition monitor, and traffic sign recognition.
For $44,075, the S R-Dynamic is essentially an appearance package. Exterior changes include body-color bumpers, wheel arches and side sills, plus a different grille mesh.
Inside, the R-Dynamic brings a perforated leather steering wheel, chrome transmission shift paddles (mounted on the steering column), contrast seat stitching, and bright metal pedals.
As is Land Rover practice, options and option packages abound. Some of these are worthy, but be judicious with your selection or the bottom line price will skyrocket.
For $625, the blind-spot assist pack comes with blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, and clear exit monitor (checks if it’s safe to open the door). For $1,950 the driver assist pack adds adaptive cruise control to these features, or adaptive cruise control can be optioned alone for $1,200.
A family pack is available for $3,050, which adds a fixed panoramic sunroof, manual third-row seats, third-row cooling vents and the ClearSight (camera-based) rearview mirror.
To sharpen up the Discovery Sport’s handling, a dynamic package costing $1,250 allows drivers to configure handling parameters and includes adaptive dampers and red brake calipers.
For buyers in cold climates, there is an appropriate package for $625 that includes a heated windshield, headlight power washer, and heated steering wheel. Separately, heated rear seats can be optioned for $510.
Larger wheels in 19-, 20- and 21-inch sizes can be optioned, at a cost that ranges up to $2,900.
We suggest sticking with the Discovery Sport S trim over the more expensive SE grade. The latter adds a few features as standard but is not really worth the extra expense.

2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport SE/SE R-Dynamic ($45,825)
The Discovery Sport SE steps up with a few extra features over the S. The list includes 20-inch wheels, premium LED headlights and daytime running lights, auto high-beam assist, and auto headlight leveling.
Inside, the enhancements include 12-way power-adjustable front seats, a full-width instrument panel display, and blind-spot alert as standard.
The SE R-Dynamic grade ($47,425) adds the same set of interior and external trim embellishments as on the S trim.
