The 5-passenger 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is the middle child in the Land Rover lineup. Not as big or powerful as the Range Rover Sport, but not as diminutive as the elegant Evoque. Styling-wise, the Velar splits the difference between the Evoque and Range Rover Sport, presenting a handsome, functional design that is bound to hold up well as the years pass.

A 2.0-liter turbocharged engine powers the entry-level Velar S, but for an additional $6,400, buyers can upgrade to the more potent 3.0-liter mild-hybrid engine. The 3.0-liter engine also brings a coil-spring suspension with Adaptive Dynamics.
Regardless of powertrain, all Velar models come standard with Land Rover’s all-wheel-drive system, including Terrain Response, All-Terrain Progress Control, Low-Traction Launch, and torque vectoring. That’s many fancy names that probably won’t mean much to the average car buyer, so we’ll break it down.
The Velar’s all-wheel-drive system is permanently engaged, meaning you don’t have to shift into 4WD or wait for the wheels to slip before all four wheels come online. The 3.0-liter upgrade includes the Adaptive Dynamic variable suspension that automatically adjusts the dampers depending on road conditions.
On the exterior, R-Dynamic styling includes 19-inch Satin Dark Grey wheels plus various trim pieces finished in either gloss black or copper.
Inside, the perforated leather seats get Suedecloth inserts. Other interior upgrades include satin chrome gearshift paddles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with satin chrome bezel, an ebony headliner, and R-Dynamic badging.
