2022 Lexus LX: Choosing the Right Trim

Topping the Lexus family of SUVs, a redesigned 2022 Lexus LX 600 is rolling into showrooms, replacing the LX 570.

Still closely aligned with the Toyota Land Cruiser, the all-new LX 600 soldiers on without the Land Cruiser in Toyota’s North American portfolio.

The Lincoln Navigator and Cadillac Escalade are key rivals.

We like the LX for its upscale cabin, Lexus reliability, solid off-road capability, and bench-mark-setting build quality.

The new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, though considerably smaller in displacement than last year’s V8, puts out excellent power, and the smooth-shifting new 10-speed automatic transmission always seems to be in the correct gear.

While the new LX excels in ride quality and overall comfort, the variable damping of the standard suspension is also tuned to minimize pitch and dive (in acceleration and braking, respectively), while reducing body roll in corners. This helps to give the big LX the dignified demeanor you expect of a Lexus, particularly one at this healthy price point.

Lexus expanded the trim lineup for 2022 beyond the one-grade 2021 LX 570.

Beginning with the base LX, the trim levels climb upward to Premium, F Sport, Luxury, and Ultra Luxury.

The seating capacity depends on the grade. LX seats five. Premium, F Sport, and Luxury seat seven with a power-folding third-row seat. Ultra Luxury seats four with a second row composed of twin captain’s chairs and a center armrest and table.

With the 2022 upgrades come a redesigned cabin, dual touchscreens, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Active Height Control and an adaptive variable suspension conspire to deliver smooth over-the-road ride and handling while providing an ideal platform for off-road.

Electronic power steering and electronically controlled brakes also enhance handling.

The off-road Multi-Terrain Select System provides several driving modes: Auto, Dirt, Sand, Mud, Deep Snow, and Rock.

There is also Crawl Control for rock crawling. The standard Multi-Terrain Monitor provides views around and under the vehicle for serious off-roading.

Power & Fuel Economy

The LX architecture continues as body-on-frame to ensure ruggedness, but its power source is a new 409-horsepower 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine.

Joining the new turbocharged V6 is an all-new 10-speed automatic transmission, hustling engine production to all four wheels (4WD).

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the fuel economy of the 2022 Lexus LX 600 is pegged at 17 miles per gallon in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg in combined driving.

When appropriately equipped, the LX can tow up to 8,000 pounds.

Lexus doesn’t provide factory-installed option packages for the base LX.

Adding the $1,345 destination fee to the LX base price brings the total to $88,245. If you put no money down and financed that amount for 60 months at 3% interest, it works out to $1,586 per month. See 2022 Lexus LX 600 models for sale.

2022 LX 600 includes:

  • Drive Connect – A subscription service, it includes Cloud Navigation, Google points of interest, Hey Lexus, and Destination Assist.
  • Intuitive Parking Assist – A sonar-based system, it alerts you when the vehicle is approaching an object at low speed whether moving forward or in reverse. The LX system also includes automatic braking to avoid those objects.
  • Multi-Terrain Monitor – It provides views around and under the vehicle for serious off-roading.

2022 Lexus LX 600 Premium (starting at $95,000)

It adds to the LX base trim with a power-fold-flat third-row seat, an adaptive variable suspension, and heated-ventilated front seats.

Also included are heated second-row outboard seats, a head-up display, a heated steering wheel, a hands-free power rear liftgate, and six USB ports.

For $670, you can add the Interior Upgrade Package with semi-aniline leather-trimmed seats, ventilated second-row seats, and the Cool Box.

The Appearance Package ($1,295) includes several black exterior accents.

Ponying up another $2,660 gains you the Mark Levinson surround-sound audio system with 25 speakers.

Adding the $1,345 destination fee to the Premium base price totals $96,345. Financing that amount with no money down for 60 months at 3% interest works out to about $1,731 per month. See 2022 Lexus LX600 Premium models for sale.

2022 Lexus LX 600 Premium includes:

  • Adaptive variable suspension – Using driver-selectable modes, this system automatically adjusts how much certain suspension components move when the vehicle is driving. Reading the terrain, the suspension adapts to deliver the absolute best ride quality.
  • Head-up display – A projector on the dashboard at the base of the windshield displays key driver information on the windshield just below the driver’s line of sight.
  • Hands-free power liftgate – With the key fob on your person, simply stick your foot under the rear bumper. The liftgate automatically opens.

2022 Lexus LX 600 F Sport (starting at $101,000)

The F Sport grade is a spin-off of Premium. It’s more of an option package Lexus turned into a trim level. Its added features don’t carry into the higher trims. This follows the trim-level scheme of many Lexus models.

For the most part, F Sport is a sporty appearance package. However, it does also add an F Sport-tuned suspension, a limited-slip rear differential, the Cool Box, a rear stabilizer bar, and performance dampers.

Aluminum pedals and 22-inch F Sport wheels are also included.

Lexus offers the Mark Levinson audio system ($2,660), as well as Active Height Control ($1,300). It allows the driver to set the LX height.

Adding the $1,345 destination fee to the F Sport base price equals $102,345. With no money down, financing that amount for 60 months at 3% interest works out to roughly $1,839 per month. See 2022 Lexus LX F Sport models for sale.

2022 Lexus LX 600 F Sport includes:

  • F Sport-tuned suspension – This suspension is tuned more for handling and performance than ride comfort.
  • Limited-slip rear differential – Torque-based, this limited-slip rear differential transfers engine torque across the rear axle from the wheel that is slipping to the one with grip.
  • Cool Box – Located in the center console, this area, when turned on, helps keep beverages and snacks cool.

2022 Lexus LX 600 Luxury (starting at $103,000)

Luxury builds on the Premium trim. Among all of the F Sport features added to Premium, only the Cool Box survives as a Luxury feature.

To Premium, Luxury adds 22-inch forged alloy wheels, one-touch auto-arrange power-folding seats, and a heated wood-leather steering wheel.

Semi-aniline leather-trimmed seating, ventilated second-row outboard seats, and automatic door closers are also included.

The 25-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound audio system joins the content list, too.

You can still order the $1,295 Appearance Package. If you pony up $1,300, you can get Active Height Control. Another $2,160, gains you the Rear-Seat Entertainment System with dual 11.4-inch monitors.

Adding the $1,345 destination fee to the Luxury base price brings the total to $104,345. With no money down, financing that amount for 60 months at 3% interest works out to about $1,875 per month. See 2022 Lexus LX600 models for sale.

2022 Lexus LX 600 Luxury includes:

  • Auto arrange power seats – Pushing one button automatically moves the front-row seats forward while folding down the second- and third-row seats.
  • Auto door closers – When you push or pull the doors closed, the system finishes shutting and sealing them.
  • Mark Levinson audio system – It’s a 25-speaker, 2,400-watt surround-sound premium audio system.

2022 Lexus LX 600 Ultra Luxury (starting at $126,500)

Ultra Luxury loses the third-row seat and replaces the second-row seat with two captain’s chairs flanking a center armrest and table. Reclining up to 48-degrees, the captain’s chairs also provide a massaging function. Moreover, the passenger-side second-row captain’s chair has a power ottoman.

Ultra Luxury also adds the Active Height Control, the Rear-Seat Entertainment System, a rear-seat wireless charger, and a digital rearview mirror.

Other standard features are heated-ventilated second-row captain’s chairs, diamond-stitched semi-aniline leather seats, and four rear USB ports.

Lexus doesn’t offer any factory-installed options for the Ultra Luxury grade.

With 3% annual financing for 60 months, the monthly payment will be around $2,297.

2022 Lexus LX 600 Ultra Luxury includes:

  • Active Height Control – This allows you to raise and lower the LX’s height when it is parked.
  • Rear-Seat Entertainment System – Including two 11.4-inch monitors, this system allows second-row passengers to enjoy programming independent of one another. It also provides an audio source independent of the front audio system. Two sets of wireless headphones and a DVD player are part of the package.
