A bit of a trim-level shakeup and some renaming are about the only changes for the 2022 Maserati Quattroporte. That, and adaptive cruise control is now standard across all grades.
Streamlining the trim levels pares the lineup down to three grades. Maserati retained the Trofeo as the Quattroporte’s top gun. The base GT and the sporty Modena fill out the grade roster.
Quattroporte slugs it out with other large luxury sedans like the Audi A8 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
We like the Quattroporte for its twin-turbo engines, head-turning styling, active suspension damping, and impressive 10.1-inch touchscreen.
The Skyhook performance suspension with electronic damping control is standard across the board. Sensors at each wheel monitor road conditions, speed, driver input, and more, adjusting the stiffness of each damper as needed. This process takes a nanosecond. Consequently, the ever-adjusting suspension provides a smoother ride. It also minimizes dive and squat when braking and accelerating.
Every Quattroporte also has a semi-autonomous driving system called Active Driver Assist. It can help the driver accelerate, brake, and steer.
Power & Fuel Economy
Providing the thrust for the GT and Modena is A 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine.
The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) GT’s version makes 345 horsepower, while the RWD Modena’s variant is tuned for 424 horsepower. Pony up $4,500, and you can get all-wheel drive (AWD) on Modena, adding Q4 to the Modena nameplate.
Packed under the Trofeo’s hood is a 580-hp 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8. Trofeo is strictly RWD.
Both engines rely on an 8-speed automatic transmission to funnel engine output to the wheels.
With RWD, the V6 boasts a government-estimated fuel economy of 16 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg in combined driving. Opting for AWD in the Modena has little impact on mileage at 16 mpg/24 mpg/19 mpg.
The V8 doesn’t do quite as well. Its numbers are 13 mpg/20 mpg/16 mpg.
