2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe: Choosing the Right Trim

Not a coupe at all, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe returns with a few feature updates.

If rear-seat headroom and cargo space aren’t major concerns, by all means, pass up the GLC SUV for the more dapper GLC Coupe. The only real difference between these stablemates is the Coupe’s sloped roofline.

Yes, you guessed it: The GLC Coupe is really an SUV.

Inflating the standard content list for all 2022 GLC Coupes are high-beam assist, a hands-free power liftgate, and rear-seat USB ports.

Moreover, the 300 4Matic also gets Parking Damage Detection as standard for the new model year.

Sharing its sandbox with the BMW X4, Audi Q5 Sportback, and Infiniti QX55, the GLC Coupe makes a premium statement.

We’re not crazy about the price tag. However, we like the fuel efficiency of the turbo 4-cylinder, the mountain of technology, and the high-performance AMG versions.

Mercedes makes the GLC Coupe available in four grades.

First is the GLC 300 4Matic Coupe. It sources its juice from a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder turbocharged engine.

Second is the GLC 43 AMG Coupe. Its go comes from a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6.

Third is the GLC 63 AMG Coupe. A hand-crafted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 provides the thrust.

Fourth is the GLC 63 S AMG Coupe. It also gets the twin-turbo V8.

All four use a 9-speed automatic transmission to dispatch engine output to all four wheels (4Matic in Mercedes-speak).

Government estimates put the fuel economy of the 2.0L turbo at 22 miles per gallon in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg in combined driving.

When dressed out with the 3.0L V6, the numbers drop to 17 mpg/24 mpg/20 mpg.

The mileage shrinks a little more with the 4.0L twin-turbo V8. Its numbers are 15 mpg/22 mpg/17 mpg.
