The Nissan Pathfinder is a 3-row family SUV that gets a full redesign for the 2022 model year. It competes in a segment made up largely of minivan alternatives, counting vehicles like the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer, and several others as its competitors.
In its prior generation, the Pathfinder was quite conservative, putting an emphasis on value over bold styling or revolutionary, high-tech features. Things are a little more balanced with this new generation, and the Pathfinder’s new styling, tech, and cabin design mean it now competes on more than just price.
Every Pathfinder is offered with the same 3.5-liter V6 engine and 9-speed automatic transmission. The engine is a carryover from the previous generation, making the same 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque as it did previously. 2022 Nissan Pathfinder S – Starting at $33,410
The Pathfinder S is the base version of Nissan’s new midsize family SUV.
Standard features include seating for eight via bench seats in the second and third rows that seat three across. The previous Pathfinder only offered room for two in the second row.
Active safety features standard on the Pathfinder S include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic detection, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, rear automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. This is a decent mix of features, but more enter the fray on higher trims.
The 2022 Pathfinder S comes with 18-inch painted aluminum-alloy wheels, auto on/off LED high and low beams, touch-based keyless entry for the front doors, fabric seating surfaces, backup camera (which is now federally mandated, meaning all cars have ‘em), 6-speaker audio system, 8.0-inch infotainment screen, 7.0-inch gauge cluster display, and tri-zone climate control.

These are some of the basics that many buyers expect from a brand new vehicle.
To the base model’s simple offering of active safety features, the SV adds blind spot intervention, intelligent lane intervention, and Nissan’s ProPilot Assist system, which leverages the radar cruise control and lane-centering systems to pilot the vehicle down the highway over short distances with minimal driver input. Regardless of how it’s branded by different automakers, this feature is becoming more and more common, but not everyone offers it, so its inclusion here helps the Pathfinder stand out.
The SV Premium Package costs an additional $2,170 and adds panoramic sunroof, power liftgate with position memory, towing package, and second-row captain’s chairs.

Other nice-to-haves included on the SL are touch-based keyless entry sensors on all four doors, illuminated sun visors, an additional USB port for the third row, integrated garage door opener, 360-degree camera system, and second-row window sunshades, which help to make the Pathfinder’s case as a great minivan alternative.
The Pathfinder SL gains traffic sign recognition, and its ProPilot Assist system is linked to the vehicle’s navigation system to better predict turns and conditions in the road ahead.
