2022 Nissan Versa: Choosing the Right Trim

Returning unchanged, the 2022 Nissan Versa continues to be a solid value in the subcompact sedan class.

Despite its role as an entry-level people carrier, Versa doesn’t feel so much bargain-basement as it does affordable value.

Fairly barebones, its price-leading S trim still provides basics like power accessories, cruise control, air conditioning, and remote keyless entry. Plus, some welcome surprises, such as Bluetooth, hands-free texting, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Moving up the 3-grade ladder, the SV and SR deliver even more in the way of creature comforts.

Granted, its affordable pricing drives much of our enthusiasm over Versa. However, how can we not be impressed with a starting price of just over $16,000, including the factory destination fee?

If your goal is to score basic 5-passenger transportation that doesn’t feel all that basic, Versa is worth a look.

A 122-horsepower 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine spins the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission on the base S.

Optional on the S ($1,670), but standard on the SV and SR is an automatic transmission.

According to government estimates, fuel economy with manual transmission is 27 miles per gallon in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, and 30 mpg in combined driving.

A notable improvement, the automatic transmission delivers 32 mpg city/40 mpg highway/35 mpg combined.

The 2022 Nissan Versa S starts at $15,080.

Standard fare includes 15-inch steel wheels, auto on-off halogen headlights, cruise control, cloth seating, and hill-start assist.

Also included are a 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, a USB port, a 12-volt power port, and a fixed rear seat.

The infotainment system has a 7-inch touchscreen, a 4-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, and satellite radio capability. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as well.

As a driver aid, Nissan provides forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking.

Other than the automatic transmission, Nissan doesn’t offer any factory-installed options for the S.

Adding the $975 destination fee to the S base price brings the total to $16,055. If you put no money down and financed for 60 months at 3% interest, it works out to $288 per month. See 2022 Nissan Versa S models for sale

2022 Nissan Versa S includes:

  • Auto on-off headlights – Photosensors detect a reduction in daylight, which automatically engages the headlights and taillights. The system extinguishes the lights when an appropriate amount of daylight returns.
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – Allows your smartphone to interface with your vehicle. Not only can you access the music on your phone, but you can also send messages, receive messages, make calls, and so forth through your vehicle’s media system.
  • Forward-collision warning – Using a forward-pointing camera and radar technology, this system scans the road ahead and warns the driver of any collision risk audibly and visually. If the driver doesn’t react to the warning, the system automatically applies the brakes.
