The big news for the 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman is the addition of the track-oriented GT4 RS. Cayman is the hardtop sister of the open-air 718 Boxster.

Other than a couple of new exterior colors, there isn’t anything else to report in the way of changes.
We like the two-seat Cayman for its sweet-shifting manual transmission, high-end interior, powerful flat-6 engines, and crisp handling.
The trim-level roll call numbers six grades and includes the base Cayman, T, S, GTS 4.0, GT4, and GT4 RS.
Power & Fuel Economy
Sitting amidships, the engine spins the rear wheels (RWD) via a 6-speed manual transmission. You can opt for a 7-speed automatic that will set you back $3,210 on the Cayman and Cayman S. For the Cayman T, Cayman GTS 4.0, and GT4, the added cost is $3,730. It’s standard on the Cayman GT4 RS.
The base Cayman and Cayman T source their go from a 300-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-4-cylinder engine.
Government-estimated fuel economy puts mileage with the manual transmission at 20 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and 22 mpg in combined driving. Pick the 7-speed automatic instead, and the numbers are 21 mpg city/27 mpg highway/24 mpg combined. Cayman T loses 1 mpg in combined driving with the automatic.
A 350-hp 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-4-cylinder pumps life into the Cayman S. Its mileage numbers are 19 mpg city/24 mpg highway/21 mpg combined with the manual transmission. With the 7-speed automatic, there is a hint of improvement at 19 mpg city/25 mpg highway/22 mpg combined.
The Cayman GTS 4.0 uses a 394-hp 4.0-liter flat-6-cylinder engine as its power source. Fuel economy with the manual transmission is 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway/19 mpg combined. With the 7-speed automatic, the estimates are 19 mpg city/24 mpg highway/21 mpg combined.
In the GT4, the 4.0L develops 414 hp. The estimated mileage with manual transmission is 17 mpg city/23 mpg highway/19 mpg combined. Adding the 7-speed automatic into the mix pushes up the fuel economy by 1 mpg across all three measures.
The GT4 RS gets an even more highly tuned version of the 4.0L flat-6-cylinder capable of generating 493 ponies. There are no government estimates yet for its mileage.
2022 Porsche 718 Cayman (starting at $60,500)
Cayman comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, LED taillights, cruise control, auto-dimming mirrors, and a Homelink transceiver.
Also standard are dual-zone automatic climate control, heated power-adjustable sport seats, a 4.6-inch driver-information display, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The infotainment system is a 7-inch touchscreen, an 8-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, satellite-radio capability, and Apple CarPlay.
A little short of driver aids, Cayman does provide front-rear park assist. You can pick up driver-assist features from the options list like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking.
Porsche offers a very long list of options and packages. For example, the Premium Package ($4,050) adds LED headlights, a Bose surround-sound system, keyless entry with push-button start, lane-changing assist, and more.
For $2,090, you can pick up the Sport Chrono Package with a dashboard-mounted stopwatch and driving modes: Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual. If your Cayman has the 7-speed automatic, you get a fifth mode: Sport Response.
You can score torque vectoring for $1,320. It gains you a rear differential lock and variable torque distribution from one side of the rear axle to the other.

2022 Porsche 718 Cayman includes:
- Auto-dimming mirrors – Using photosensors, they recognize bright headlights closing from behind. They then automatically dim the reflection of those lights. Included are the outboard and inboard rearview mirrors.
- Dual-zone automatic climate control – A set-it-and-forget-it system, it divides the vehicle into left and right regions. It provides separate temperature settings for each region. Once set, it automatically maintains the preset temperatures.
- Front-rear park assist – Sensors on the front and rear bumpers detect when an object is close, triggering a warning.
2022 Porsche 718 Cayman T (starting at $69,600)
T adds 20-inch alloy wheels, the Sport Chrono Package, a GT Sport steering wheel, and torque vectoring.

Building on the base Cayman, the Cayman S adds 19-inch alloy wheels and the more powerful 2.5L flat-4-cylinder engine.
