2022 Porsche Panamera: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2022 Porsche Panamera is the exotic performance sedan for those who sometimes need four doors but would rather be riding around in a 911 coupe. Although not as practical as an Audi S8 or BMW Alpina B7, the Panamera offers a unique take on the four-door performance sedan, with styling and engine options that leave the competition wanting.

The Panamera comes in three body styles and a choice of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The standard and long-wheelbase Executive models display the trademark 911-style rear end. In contrast, the Turismo models get a more wagon-like design that makes for a much better-looking Panamera.

In total, the 2022 Porsche Panamera lineup offers more than 20 different trims. To avoid a trim review as long as War and Peace, we’ll be covering the most relevant Panamera models but still provide pertinent information about the other choices.

2022 Porsche Panamera (Starting at $88,400)

The first thing you’ll notice about the 2022 Porsche Panamera is its driver-assist systems, or rather, lack thereof. Unlike its rivals, Porsche believes drivers should have a say in the level of electronic meddling in their cars. To that end, the only standard driver-assists are front and rear parking sensors, lane-keeping assist, and traffic sign recognition. However, buyers can opt for automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a blind-spot monitor.

The base Panamera derives power from a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 good for 325 horsepower and a zero-to-60 run in just 5.3 seconds. An 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) with manual paddle shifters is the only gearset available.

Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) automatically adjusts shock dampening according to road conditions. At the same time, the standard 4D Chassis Control monitors three dimensions (lateral, longitudinal, and vertical acceleration) then sends all the info to a computer that adjusts the adaptive suspension and available rear-wheel steering to provide optimal cornering and ride comfort. Other standard performance features include 6-piston front and 4-piston rear ventilated disc brakes and 19-inch wheels surrounded by summer tires. It doesn’t come with a spare tire, but a tire-sealing compound and air compressor are included.

The Panamera uses LEDs for headlights and taillights and includes a Welcome Home feature that leaves the lights on for about 30 seconds after you exit the vehicle. A panoramic glass roof, rain-sensing wipers, automatic rear hatch, auto-dimming heated side mirrors, and adaptive rear spoiler finish the exterior.

The Comfort Access system includes a proximity key fob that allows the driver to unlock the doors and start the car simply by having the fob in their pocket or purse. The system also includes foot-gesture activation for the rear hatchback.

Interior comfort and conveniences include cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, partial leather interior, 8-way power heated front seats, front and rear center consoles, and individual bucket-style folding rear seats.

The Panamera’s standard instrument cluster includes a center-mounted analog tachometer flanked by two high-resolution screens that play home to the speedometer, various readouts, and navigation maps. A manual tilt/telescopic steering wheel features paddle shifters and buttons for the cruise, Bluetooth, and available optional upgrades.

Audio and communication flow through the Porsche Communication Management System that features online navigation, Bluetooth, and Porsche Connect Plus services that include Car Finder, Remote Vehicle Status, and Porsche Vehicle Tracking, to name a few. Sound fills the Panamera cabin courtesy of a 150-watt 10-speaker sound system.

Wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a smartphone compartment with a wireless charging pad are standard.

Optional equipment for the Panamera generates a long list of choices, starting with paint color. Black and White are no-charge options; everything else costs extra. It offers 25 different wheel choices in various sizes and designs and numerous interior colors, leather upgrades, and interior trim pieces in wood, aluminum, or carbon fiber that allow for the ultimate personal customization.

Buyers can choose between 14-way or 18-way power front seats, 8-way power-adjustable rear seats, heated and ventilated massaging front seats, heated rear seats, power-adjustable steering wheel, and 4-zone climate control. Also available is a heated steering wheel, power sun blinds for the rear windows, rear 2 +1 seats, ambient light, and even your choice of seatbelt colors.

Among the more popular equipment packages is the Premium Package that brings an adaptive air suspension, Bose audio, 14-way power seats, adaptive LED headlights, lane-change assist, soft-close doors, ambient lighting, 4-zone climate control, heated rear seats, and heated and ventilated front seats.

The Assistance Package adds InnoDrive adaptive cruise control with GPS navigation, a head-up display, adaptive headlights, and a surround-view camera.

Other driver-aid features include an infrared thermal imaging system called Night Vision Assist that allows the driver to see people or animals out of range of the headlights.

Performance options include the Sport Chrono Package that adds an analog-digital stopwatch, launch control, and driving modes for Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual. Also available are rear-axle steering, Power Steering Plus adaptive steering response, and ceramic composite brakes.

Audio enhancement includes a 14-speaker Bose speaker package with a 710-watt amp or a 1,455-watt Burmester 3D Surround Sound system with 21 speakers. A rear-seat USB interface and rear-seat entertainment system round out the choices.

With the $1,350 destination fee, the 2022 Porsche Panamera costs $89,750. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to $1,613. See 2022 Porsche Panamera models for sale
