The 2022 Ram 1500 may not be the best-selling full-size pickup in America (that honor goes to the Ford F-150), but it is a force with which to be reckoned. While the Ram 1500 doesn’t offer a standard cab or as many configurations as the F-150, there are plenty of choices and competitive pricing to make it a top contender.
Ram also takes its personalization a bit more seriously than the competition, with numerous trims, colors, and packages, not to mention one of the handsomest interiors of any full-size pickup.
With four engine choices and tow ratings ranging from 7,690 all the way up to 12,750, the Ram is up for any challenge.
2022 Ram 1500 Tradesman (Starting at $35,900)
The entry-level Tradesman comes in two cab configurations, both having four doors. The Quad Cab comes solely with a 6-foot 4-inch box, while the larger Crew Cab offers the same or the option for a smaller 5-foot 7-inch box. The standard drivetrain is a 4×2 setup powered by a 3.6-liter V6 with a 48-volt eTorque mild-hybrid starter/generator for a total output of 305 horsepower.
Optional upgrades include 4-wheel drive, a 395-horsepower 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with or without the hybrid system, and a fuel-efficient 260-hp 3.0-liter EcoDiesel rated at 26 mpg combined city/highway. Regardless of the engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission comes attached. The standard fuel tank is 23 gallons.
Standard equipment for the Tradesman includes 18-inch painted steel wheels, manually-folding power heated side mirrors with convex wide-angle insert, automatic headlights, and variable wipers. The pickup bed door is dampened and lockable for easy use, and the bed features a light above the rear window. A Class III bumper hitch is also included.
Standard amenities include air conditioning, power windows and door locks, plus a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with controls for cruise and Bluetooth. Also standard is a keyless entry system with push-button start and front bucket seats.
The Tradesman’s infotainment system is simple but gets the job done, with a 5-inch touch screen, six speakers, a rear backup camera, AM/FM stereo, two USB ports, and Sirius Guardian with connection to safety and security apps.
Standard safety and stability systems include electronic traction and stability control, electronic roll mitigation, hill start assist, and trailer sway control. Also includes is Electronic Range Select that allows the driver to limit the highest available drive gear. Rain Brake Support helps keep the brakes dry by periodically activating the brakes with light pressure. The Tradesman also comes with a tire pressure monitor and a system that alerts the driver when reaching the proper tire pressure.
There are numerous packages and upgrades for the Tradesman. More desirable options include a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, and ParkSense front and rear parking sensors with reverse stop. Lane-departure warning is also available as part of the Level 1 Safety Group.
The Tradesman Level 1 Equipment Group adds a 40/20/40 cloth bench seat, carpet, a power sliding rear window, SiriusXM satellite radio, and front and rear floor mats.
The Chrome Appearance Group adds more chrome to the bumpers and grille, while the Sport Appearance package brings things like body-colored bumpers, black accents, and upgraded wheels.
The Ram 1500 offers various tow packages depending on engine choice, a 33-gallon fuel tank, 3.92 rear axle ratio, 20-inch wheels, and trailer brake control.
A Bed Utility Group adds a spray-on bedliner, deployable bed step, bed lighting, and upper adjustable tie-downs. The Protection Group (4×4 only) adds tow hooks and skid plate protection for the steering, front suspension, transfer case, and fuel tank.
An Off-Road Group adds to the Protection Group off-road shocks, a locking rear axle, hill-descent control, and all-terrain tires.
4×4 models offer a four-corner air suspension and a Snow Plow Prep package with a 220-amp alternator, plow prep wiring harness, and a power sliding rear window with defroster.
With the $1,795 destination fee, the 2022 Ram 1500 Tradesman Quad Cab 4×2 sells for $37,695. If putting no money down, the payment on a 60-month loan at 3% financing comes to about $677. See 2022 Ram 1500 Tradesman models for sale
2022 Ram 1500 Tradesman HFE includes:
- 3.6-liter V6 engine – with a mild-hybrid 48-volt electric starter/generator, the standard V6 has a surprising amount of power and is tow rated at 7,690 pounds.
- Heated side mirrors – help keep frost and snow from building up on the mirrors.
- Power windows and door locks – seems like a minor thing, but some entry-level trucks still have manual controls.
- Keyless entry with push-button start – no more fumbling for keys. Just jump in, push a button, and away you go.
2022 Ram 1500 HFE ($37,537)
The HFE is a simplified version of the Tradesman, intended chiefly for fleet use. Available only in 2-wheel drive and with the 3.6-liter V6, the HFE offers cloth seats, a front license plate bracket, and little else. See 2022 Ram 1500 HFE models for sale
2022 Ram 1500 Big Horn/Lone Star ($40,955)
Bighorn/Lone Star isn’t all one name. These are two trucks with the same price, same equipment but different names. The Lone Star is just a trim package of the Big Horn meant exclusively for the Texas market. Cab and bed configurations are the same as the Tradesman HFE.
The Big Horn is the first step up to a properly equipped family pickup truck. It includes more features like front and rear stabilizer bars, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, 60/40 folding rear seats, heavy-duty shocks, fog lights, and bright bumper fascia.
Now, we know that might not seem like a lot of extra goodies, but remember, the Big Horn is only a few thousand more than the Tradesman. However, the Big Horn opens the door to some of Ram’s most delicious options.
The Big Horn Level 1 Equipment Group adds an auto-dimming mirror, power-folding mirrors, a Class IV hitch receiver, mirror courtesy lamps, an 8-way power driver’s seat with 4-way power lumbar support, power-adjustable pedals, and a rear dome lamp. Also includes are SiriusXM, a remote CD player, rear window defroster, and an upgraded Uconnect infotainment system with an 8.4-inch display.
Big Horn Level 2 Equipment builds off Level 1, adding remote start, two 115-volt outlets, a battery-fed 400-watt inverter, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Also in the group are heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a media hub with two USB charge ports, a power-sliding rear window, and ParkSense front and rear parking sensors with reverse stop.
The Advanced Technology Group includes a head-up display, digital rearview mirror, and LED cargo bed lights.
There are several Max Tow packages, as well as appearance packages like the Sport Appearance Package. The Night Edition is for people who think the best color on a pickup is black. It includes blacked-out trim, wheels, headlight bezels, bumpers, mirror caps, and tailpipe tips.
Other notable options include power-adjustable trailering mirrors, side steps, running boards, a multi-function tailgate, navigation, and a substantial 12-inch infotainment display screen. An Alpine nine-speaker audio upgrade with amplifier and subwoofer is also available, as is the choice of a standard sunroof or, on Crew Cab models, a dual-pane power roof.
With destination, the 2022 Ram 1500 Big Horn and Lone Star Quad Cab 4×2 sell for $39,755. With no money down, the monthly payment on a 60-month loan at 3% comes to about $768. See 2022 Ram 1500 Big Horn models for sale

2022 Ram 1500 Rebel ($50,395)
The Rebel is the off-roader of the Ram line, offered only in 4×4 form when ordered with the Quad Cab and 6-foot 4-inch box, but available in two-wheel drive form on the larger Crew Cab with the 5-foot 7-inch box. The 3.6-liter V6 is still standard, and like the other trim before the Rebel, engine options include a HEMI V8 and 3.0-liter diesel.
Adding to the Rebel’s uniqueness is a sport performance hood, 33-inch wheels, black wheel flares, a locking rear axle, vinyl and cloth bucket seats featuring a 12-way power driver’s seat and 4-way power lumbar, and an off-road suspension.
The Rebel’s ride height sits at 8.3-inches, with an 18-degree approach angle, 19-degree breakover, and 25.1-degree departure. Additional skid plate protection and all-terrain tires are also part of the Rebel package.
The Rebel’s interior builds off the Big Horn, meaning you’re stuck with manual air conditioning and the tiny 5-inch infotainment screen. The Rebel does have bucket seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat with 4-way power lumbar, a 115-volt outlet, and automatic emergency braking.
The Rebel Level 1 Equipment Package adds power heated mirrors with power fold away, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8.4-inch touch screen, SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a CD player.

Other notable optional equipment includes a 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system or a nine-speaker Alpine unit with an amplifier and subwoofer. Buyers can opt for the Uconnect infotainment system with a 12-inch touch screen and navigation, leather seating, and the four-corner air suspension (4×4 Crew Cab with 5.7-liter V8 only).
There’s also a GT package for the Rebel Crew Cab with the 5-foot 7-inch box (see the Laramie trim for details).
With the $1,795 destination fee, the 2022 Ram 1500 Rebel Quad Cab 4×4 sells for $52,190. A 60-month loan at 3% financing comes to about $938 a month if putting no money down. See 2022 Ram 1500 Rebel models for sale
2022 Ram 1500 Rebel includes:
- Off-road package – with a higher ride height, off-road shocks, and all-terrain tires, the Rebel is more than ready to tackle challenging off-road trails.
- Automatic emergency braking – forward-collision warning detects and warns of a possible collision and can bring the truck to a complete stop if the driver fails to act.
- Locking rear axle – necessary for towing, light off-roading, or plowing through snow-covered roads, the locking rear axle locks the rear axle shafts together, forcing the wheels to spin at an equal rate.
- Available Harman Kardon audio – what better way to enjoy the drive than with your favorite music blasting from 19 Harman Kardon speakers.
2022 Ram 1500 Laramie ($49,250)
The Laramie begins the Ram 1500’s move from workhorse to luxury truck, adding more features and options, as well as interior upgrades. The standard engine is the 5.7-liter V8, but buyers can opt for the same V8 without the mild-hybrid system or the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel.
