The Subaru BRZ is all-new for 2022 with a new look, more tech, and better performance. With a nice upgrade in power and torque, this car will quiet the naysayers who accused the previous generation of being underpowered. Meanwhile, it retains its taut handling and low curb weight. It adds up to deliver the driving experience of an old-school sports car but with modern, high-tech features.
Every 2022 BRZ is powered by a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine producing 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. It’s rear-wheel drive with a standard 6-speed manual transmission and an available 6-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
You can get the Subaru BRZ in two different trims. If you’re an enthusiast on a budget, we have good news. Both trims are quite reasonably priced. The base Premium trim is the value choice, while the Limited model adds more luxury features.
Let’s look at the two trims of the BRZ and see which one is right for you.
2022 Subaru BRZ Premium (starting at $27,995)
The base Premium trim is a well-equipped sports car. On top of the lively 228-horsepower engine, standard mechanical features include a 6-speed manual transmission (a 6-speed automatic is optional), a Torsen limited-slip differential, and sport-tuned 4-wheel independent suspension.
Other standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, 17-inch alloy wheels with summer tires, LED headlights, a rear spoiler, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, cloth seats, and three drive modes (Normal, Sport, Track).
The standard Starlink infotainment system has an 8-inch screen loaded with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, two USB ports, and 8-speaker audio.
When you add the optional automatic transmission ($1,600), you also get automatic high beams and the EyeSight suite of driver assistance features. This adds adaptive cruise control with lane-centering, pre-collision braking, lane departure and sway warning, and lane-keep assist.
When you add the $960 destination fee, the starting price of the BRZ comes to $28,955. With a 60-month loan at 3% interest and no money down, the BRZ Premium would have a reasonable monthly payment of $520. See 2022 Subaru BRZ Premium models for sale
2022 Subaru BRZ Premium includes:
228-hp boxer engine — This 4-cylinder engine comes with a nice upgrade in performance compared to the previous generation of the BRZ.
Standard manual transmission — The standard 6-speed manual transmission gives the BRZ a pure sports car driving experience.
Starlink infotainment system — This user-friendly 8-inch screen is loaded with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and more.
2022 Subaru BRZ Limited (starting at $30,495)
The Limited trim adds some excellent premium features to the BRZ while keeping the price reasonable. It gets an aesthetic upgrade with 18-inch alloy wheels with a matte dark gray finish wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 high-performance tires plus LED steering responsive headlights.
The Limited trim’s standard interior and tech features include leather/Ultrasuede upholstery, heated front seats, and blind-spot monitoring with lane-change assist and rear cross-traffic alert.
Like the Premium trim, adding the automatic transmission ($1,800) also bundles the EyeSight safety tech suite. The Limited trim with the automatic also adds reverse automatic braking.
Using the same assumptions outlined above with a 60-month loan at 3% interest, the BRZ Limited would cost $565/month. See 2022 Subaru BRZ Limited models for sale
