The 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid looks and drives like a standard Tundra, with a little more guts under the hood, a few better mpg in both city and highway driving, and a slightly better tow rating.
Unlike Toyota’s other hybrid models with a separate gas engine and electric motor or motors, the Tundra Hybrid uses a less sophisticated setup that sandwiches an electric motor between its 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 and 10-speed automatic transmission. It’s a design similar to what Ford offers in the F-150 and better than the Ram 1500 eTorque setup.
Oddly, Toyota doesn’t offer the hybrid engine across the entire model range, starting instead with the Limited and higher trims that are pretty pricey prospects. The hybrid engine comes in the CrewMax cab with either the standard or short bed.
2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Limited (starting at $52,300, 4×2), ($55,300, 4×4)
The first trim to offer the hybrid engine is the Limited. It comes well-equipped and offers several packages that mix and match many of the same features. The Tundra’s choices are not as numerous or complex as its rivals, somewhat simplifying the ordering process for optional equipment.
The Limited starts with 20-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, daytime running lights, taillights, and fog lights. The Tundra also touts an optional power-folding, heated, and auto-dimming exterior mirror with a tilt-down-when-in-reverse feature. A Smart Key proximity key fob allows locking and unlocking the front doors by touching the door handle. An easy-lower-and-lift tailgate includes a bump switch built into the driver’s side taillight.
A tow hitch receiver and 7-/4-pin trailer connector are also standard, as is trailer brake control, an automatic limited-slip rear differential, and a rear backup camera.
On the safety front, Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 (TSS 2.5) comes standard. The suite includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keeping assist, traffic sign recognition, automatic high-beam headlights, and adaptive cruise control.
The Tundra also features a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and Trailer Merge Warning that detects when you’re towing a trailer and extends the range of the side blind-spot monitor to compensate. Also in the mix are front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking.
The Limited trim is more luxurious than rugged, and its interior reflects its status. Standard features count SofTex faux leather upholstery in black or gray, 8-way power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats with 2-way power lumbar support, driver’s seat memory, 60/40 split-folding rear seats with center armrest, a fixed center console with a shift lever, and push-button start.
Other features include a 12.3-inch configurable digital instrument cluster, Drive Mode Select (Eco, Normal, and Sport modes), dual-zone automatic climate control with rear-seat air vents, and a manual tilt/telescoping leather-wrapped steering wheel with phone, audio, driver assists, and display controls.
The Tundra features a unique power vertical retracting rear window that rolls down, power side windows with one-touch auto-up/down, and an overhead console with sunglasses holder and rear window control switch. The interior includes a soft-touch instrument panel and door surfaces, plus front and rear LED map lights.
The Limited’s voice-activated infotainment setup consists of an enormous 14-inch multimedia touchscreen with a 9-speaker audio system, cloud-based Google navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio with a 3-month Platinum plan trial, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Toyota Connected Services.
The Limited offers several options, mostly bundled into packages. Stand-alone options include a panoramic power moonroof, heated power tow mirrors, a load-leveling rear air suspension, and a heated steering wheel.
The PVM Package adds a 360-degree Panoramic View Monitor, while the TRD Off-Road Package adds 20-inch TRD off-road wheels with all-terrain tires, an off-road suspension with Bilstein gas shocks, aluminum sport pedals, TRD badging, and skid plates.
Additional features in various package arrangements include a wireless charging pad, trailer backup guide with Straight Path Assist, 400W/120V AC outlet (one in the rear seat and one in the truck bed), and a 12-speaker JBL audio system.
With the $1,695 destination charge, the 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Limited 4×2 costs $53,995. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment comes to about $970. See 2022 Toyota Tundra Hybrid Limited models for sale

Building off the Limited trim, the TRD Pro comes standard with a part-time 4WD system with a 2-speed transfer case and an automatic locking rear differential. A TRD off-road suspension adds a one-inch front lift, 2.5-inch FOX internal-bypass remote reserve front coil overs and rear remote-reserve shocks, and a TRD Pro front stabilizer bar.
18-inch matte-black BBS wheels wrapped in Falken Wildpeak all-terrain tires, an aluminum front skid plate, and Xply-Armor high-strength transfer case and fuel tank covers further bolster the TRD Pro’s off-road credentials, as does an LED grille-mounted light bar and TRD Pro LED marker lights.
