The 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron is one of the many vehicles in Audi’s growing electric fleet. It’s a compact SUV slightly smaller than the gas-powered Audi Q5, making it ideal for those living in tight urban areas. There’s also a Q4 e-tron Sportback that adds a more coupe-like silhouette but more interior room.
New this year is the Q4 40 e-tron, a rear-drive model that promises a lower price and a greater range but less power. The Q4 40 e-tron uses a single electric motor at the rear wheels, good for 201 horsepower and a 265-mile range. The Q4 50 e-tron gets a second electric motor up front, giving it quattro all-wheel drive (AWD), 295 hp, and 236 miles of range (242 miles in the Sportback).
Those looking to take advantage of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit won’t be happy, as the Q4 e-tron isn’t eligible.
Other models worth considering include the Cadillac Lyriq, Genesis GV60, Volvo XC40, Tesla Model Y, and the Volkswagen ID.4. With the ID.4, which is essentially the exact vehicle as the Q4 under the skin, and the Model Y, the U.S. government’s $7,500 tax credit applies as both qualify as SUVs built in the U.S.
2023 Audi Q4 40 e-tron Premium (RWD): $49,800, Q4 50 e-tron Premium (AWD): $55,200
The entry-level Q4 40 e-tron Premium lets buyers slip behind the wheel with the lowest price, but many may find this trim lacking in features, especially when considering that Audi is a luxury brand.
The Premium includes a host of Audi safety and driver-assist systems, including forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights.
Also included are front and rear parking sensors, a rearview monitor, and individual tire pressure monitors. Every Q4 e-tron also has frontal, front side-impact, side-curtain, and rear side-impact airbags.
Those seeking features like adaptive cruise control and lane guidance will have to move up to the Premium Plus trim, as they are not offered here.
The 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron Premium touts handsome 19-inch alloy wheels and features LED headlights, heated outside mirrors, a panoramic glass sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, and a power liftgate.
Additional exterior touches include LED taillights, Alu-optic roof rails, deep-tinted rear privacy glass, and a 9.6-kW compact charging system featuring a 14.5-foot cable and NEMA 14-50 plug.
A tire mobility kit replaces the traditional spare tire.
The Premium’s cabin includes a new 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen that complements the 10.25-inch digital dash and capacitive-touch controls on the leather-wrapped tilt/telescoping steering wheel.
Leather upholstery covers the heated seats, which include an 8-way power driver’s seat with 4-way power lumbar support. The folding rear bench seat splits 40/20/40.
