2023 Chevrolet Colorado: Choosing the Right Trim

The all-new 2023 Chevrolet Colorado midsize pickup looks ready to battle the Ford Ranger, Nissan Frontier, and Toyota Tacoma.

Remade from the ground up, the new Colorado touts a more aggressive look but loses some flexibility due to its one-size-fits-all Crew Cab/Short Box (5-foot bed) configuration. Chevy has also sent last year’s V6 and diesel engine options packing, leaving the Colorado with just one engine: a turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder. On the plus side, Chevy offers three versions of this engine, with horsepower figures ranging from 237 to 310 and torque from 259 lb-ft to 430 lb-ft.

Five Colorado trims cover everything from essential work truck to off-road-capable courier, including a new Trail Boss trim that isn’t afraid to get dirty. The Colorado’s interior also sees vast improvement, with better materials, a more modern dash, and new technology spread over four unique interior options.

The WT, or Work Truck, is a working-class truck big on value and capability. However, this isn’t the trim for you if you seek plush. Skip up to the LT.

The WT’s standard equipment roster includes a 237-hp turbocharged engine, with the option to upgrade to a more powerful 310-hp Turbo Plus version that also increases torque.

Max trailering for the Colorado WT is rated at 3,500 pounds with the standard engine and 7,700 with the Turbo Plus.

On the safety front, the WT comes standard with forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, following distance indicator, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights.

Additional safety systems include a rear seat reminder and Teen Driver, which allows parents to set limits on certain features and keep a report card on their teen’s driving habits.

The WT rolls on 17-inch steel wheels and features a corner step rear bumper, cargo bed light, rear privacy glass, power side mirrors, and remote keyless entry.

Along with the HD rear vision camera, the WT includes Hitch View, which offers a close-up view of the vehicle’s trailer hitch when shifted into reverse.

In stark contrast to its minimalist exterior, the WT’s cabin is surprisingly stylish and features an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and a substantial 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen.

Standard amenities include a push-button start, single-zone manual air conditioning, a tilt steering wheel, power windows, power door locks, and manual front seats covered in cloth.

The WT’s second row includes a 60/40-split folding rear seat, a 12-volt outlet, and express-down power windows.

The standard infotainment system features a 6-speaker AM/FM radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity, natural voice recognition, and access to OnStar and GM connected services.

Optional equipment for the WT is quite extensive and mostly bundled into packages.

Additional optional equipment includes Evotex synthetic leather upholstery, heated outside mirrors, rear parking sensors with rear cross-traffic braking, a blind-spot monitor, and HD Surround Vision cameras.

Also available are rear air vents, rubberized vinyl flooring, adaptive cruise control, a center floor console, and a choice between a spray-in bedliner or a molded bedliner with cargo storage and lighting.

  • How many miles per gallon does the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado get?

Fuel economy figures have yet to be released for the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado, but we expect them to be competitive, perhaps about 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
