2023 Chevrolet Tahoe: Choosing the Right Trim

Having undergone a complete redesign in 2021, the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe rolls into showrooms with no notable changes, save for the debut of Super Cruise as an option. According to General Motors, Super Cruise is an autonomous driving technology that can do it all on certain compatible roads. In other words, it can accelerate, brake, steer, and even change lanes without driver input. The caveat is this: The microchip shortage might delay Super Cruise availability.

Other model-year changes are restricted to a few new exterior colors.

We like the Tahoe for its three engine choices, cavernous cabin, seating for up to nine, rugged good looks, and high level of technology.

Chevy presents the 3-row Tahoe in six trim levels: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. Standard on the Z71 and available on all other grades is 4-wheel drive (4WD), which delivers off-road capability.

Providing the thrust in all but the High Country grade is a 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8. A 10-speed automatic transmission changes the cogs regardless of engine.

Available in all but the Z71 is a 277-hp 3.0-liter turbodiesel. The third engine is a 420-hp 6.2-liter V8, offered for the top three trim levels.

Based on EPA estimates, the combined city and highway fuel economy for rear-wheel-drive (RWD) models with the 5.3-liter V8 is 17 miles per gallon. The best mileage is with the RWD 3.0-liter turbodiesel, at 24 mpg combined. The RWD 6.2-liter V8 returns 16 mpg.

When appropriately equipped, the Tahoe can tow up to 8,400 pounds. The maximum cargo-carrying space with the second- and third-row seats folded is 122.9 cubic feet. The Tahoe has a max payload of 1,834 pounds. Compare the Tahoe with the GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition, Jeep Wagoneer, and Toyota Sequoia, for starters.

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe LS
(starting at $52,000)

Anchoring Tahoe’s lineup, the LS kicks things off with a rich array of standard features and technologies. It is also the only trim level offering a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat for nine seating positions.

At the top of the list is the Chevy Safety Assist bundle of advanced safety and driver-aid technologies. These include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, and lane-departure warning. The package also has high-beam assist, front-rear park assist, and a following-distance indicator.

Other standard features are 17-inch alloy wheels, hill-start assist, wheel-to-wheel assist steps, and rain-sensing wipers. Also included are exterior LED lighting (taillights, auto on-off headlights, and daytime running lights), seven airbags, and a 4.2-inch driver information display. Cruise control, proximity keyless entry with push-button start, and a tilt-and-telescopic steering wheel are standard, too.

The driver and front-seat passenger can get comfortable in power-adjustable seats (driver: 10-way, passenger 8-way).

Also included: Teen Driver, which allows the parents of young drivers to set various restrictions (such as max stereo volume) on their early driving experiences.

You can remotely start the Tahoe with your key fob within range, which also engages the tri-level automatic climate control. Chevy also integrates six USB ports around the Tahoe cabin.

Keeping the brood entertained and connected begins with the Infotainment 3 interface system. It includes an 8-inch touchscreen, a 6-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto. A Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite radio, and OnStar capabilities are all standard.

Pick the Driver Alert Package if you wish to add blind-spot monitoring (BSM) and rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA).

Adding the $1,795 destination fee to the LS base price brings the total to approximately $53,795. Financing for 60 months at 3% interest with no money down works out to about $967 per month. See 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe LS models for sale

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe LS includes:

LED exterior lighting – This includes headlights with auto on-off, taillights, and daytime running lights (DRLs). LEDs illuminate a broader and longer area than regular incandescent or halogen lights. That means they are also easier for other drivers to see.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – These allow your smartphone to interface with your vehicle. Not only can you access the music on your phone, but you can also send messages, receive messages, make calls, and so forth through your vehicle’s media system. For the Tahoe, this is all accomplished without cables.

Tri-zone automatic climate control – Separating the vehicle into three areas (front right, front left, and rear), this system allows setting the temperatures in each. It then automatically maintains those preset temperatures.

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe LT
(starting at $57,500)

Despite the LS being chock-full of standard equipment, we suggest moving up to the LT. You’ll score additional conveniences like a hands-free power rear liftgate, a 10.2-inch touchscreen, and a 10-way power-adjustable passenger seat.

Also included are a 12-inch color programmable driver information and gauge display, a 9-speaker Bose audio system, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Chevy also adds leather front seats, a Homelink transceiver, and wireless phone charging.

The Driver Alert Package with blind-spot monitoring (BSM) and rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA) remains an option.

To gain BSM and RCTA, you can also add the Luxury Package. It includes a surround-view camera, rear pedestrian detection, and heated outboard auto-dimming mirrors with integrated turn signals. Other package features are a heated power-adjustable steering wheel, and power-folding second- and third-row seats. At less than $3,000, this Luxury Package is a bargain.

Adding the destination fee to the LT base price equals $59,295. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to a monthly payment of about $1,065. See 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe LT models for sale

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe LT includes:

Upgraded interior features – Added features improving the experience include a 9-speaker Bose audio system, a 10.2-inch touchscreen, and leather front seats.

Hands-free power liftgate – With the key fob on your person, wave a foot under the rear bumper to automatically open the liftgate.

Heated outboard mirrors – Electrically heated, these auto-dimming mirrors automatically clear away ice, snow, and fog. The mirror housings also contain the Tahoe LT’s turn signals.

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe RST
(starting at $61,000)

Primarily an appearance upgrade of the LT, the RST adds 22-inch black alloy wheels, perforated leather seat upholstery, and black exterior accents.

The Driver Alert and Luxury Packages are on the options list, among others.

Adding the destination fee to the RST base price totals $62,795. At 3% interest over 60 months, financing with no money down works out to about $1,128 per month. See 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe RST models for sale

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71
(starting at $63,000)

The Z71 builds on the LT.

Chevy pumped up the Tahoe for more aggressive outbacking with its Z71 grade. Not only is it the only Tahoe trim boasting 4WD as standard, but Chevy loads it up with a few off-road components, too.

For example, the Z71 provides a 2-speed transfer case, a heavy-duty air filter, hill-descent control, a front skid plate, and front-rear tow hooks (in red). Also included are 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain rubber. Heftier black wheel-to-wheel side steps are standard as well.

Chevy even provides the Z71 with a unique front fascia that creates a higher approach angle.

Major factory-installed options lead off with the LT Luxury Package. Also available, the Off-Road Capability Package adds Adaptive Air Ride suspension, an electronic limited-slip differential, and Magnetic Ride Control. The Max Trailering Package gains you an integrated trailer brake controller, Hitch Guidance with Hitch View, and the Smart Trailer Integration Indicator.

Although it costs more than $5,000, the Z71 Off-Road Package combines the LT Luxury Package with the Max Trailering Package and Off-Road Capability Package.

Adding the destination fee to the Z71 base price brings the total to $64,795. Financing for 60 months at 3% interest with no money down costs about $1,164 per month. See 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 models for sale

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 includes:

2-speed transfer case – In Auto mode, this system defaults to RWD until it detects wheel slippage. It then automatically shifts into 4WD until rear-wheel traction recovers. It allows the driver to shift into 4WD on the fly.

Electronic limited-slip rear differential – When one wheel is slipping, sensors monitoring the drive wheels on the same axle automatically send more torque to the wheel with better grip.

Hill-descent control – Basically, this is cruise control for downhill driving at low speeds.

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe Premier
(starting at $65,800)

Building on the LT grade, Premier lathers on comfort and convenience.

It is also the first grade offering the optional Super Cruise autonomous driver-assistance system. Super Cruise can brake, accelerate, and steer the vehicle on compatible roads without driver input. Moreover, it can even change lanes on its own. Although the driver doesn’t need to hold the steering wheel under such conditions, there is a camera monitoring the driver to ensure the driver is alert and watching the road.

To the LT, Premier adds 20-inch alloy wheels, an auto-dimming driver-side outboard mirror, and a 10-speaker Bose surround-sound audio system. A power-adjustable steering wheel, driver memory for the steering wheel, outboard mirrors and driver seat, and a power-sliding center console also are standard. Other features are power-folding second- and third-row seats, perforated-leather seat upholstery, and a haptic safety-alert driver seat. Magnetic Ride Control, which monitors the road surface and changes the damping in nanoseconds, is included as well.

Premier is the grade in which BSM and RCTA finally join the standard features list.

Chevy provides several factory-installed options bundled into packages. These include a panoramic sunroof, surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera mirror, and rear pedestrian detection.

Adding the $1,795 destination fee to the Premier base price equals $67,595. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to a monthly payment of about $1,215. See 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe Premier models for sale

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe Premier includes:

Safety-alert seat – In addition to sounding alerts when advanced safety systems detect a possible crash, the Tahoe can alert the driver of potential danger via vibrations in the driver seat.

Power-sliding center console – Activating a power switch overhead, the driver can slide the center console backward by as much as 10 inches. This makes room for larger items between the front seats and reveals a hidden storage drawer.

Blind-spot monitoring – This radar-based system warns of traffic approaching your flanks from behind. It also includes rear cross-traffic alert to warn of vehicles crossing behind you when in reverse.

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe High Country
(starting at $72,600)

The High Country represents the most luxury, convenience, and safety the Tahoe offers. The listed price is for a High Country equipped with the 3.0-liter turbodiesel. Swapping it for the 6.2-liter V8 bumps up the price by $1,600.

Building on the Premier, High Country adds 22-inch alloy wheels, a surround-view monitor, a head-up display, and a rearview camera mirror with a washer. Rear pedestrian detection is standard as well.

Option bundles feature conveniences like power-retractable running boards, an Adaptive Air Ride suspension, a panoramic sunroof, and adaptive cruise control.

And, of course, the newly offered Super Cruise driver-assistance system is optional.

Adding the destination fee to the High Country base price brings the total to $74,395. Financing for 60 months at 3% interest with no money down works out to roughly $1,337 per month. See 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe High Country models for sale

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe High Country includes:

Surround-view camera – This feature is convenient when parking, providing a 360-degree bird’s-eye view around the vehicle.

Digital rearview camera mirror – A rear-pointed camera projects a rearview image in the rearview mirror. Even if the rear window is blocked, it displays what is behind the vehicle.

Head-up display –A projector on the dashboard at the windshield base displays critical driver information on the windshield. The image appears just below the driver’s line of sight and reduces the time the driver’s eyes are off the road.
