When you think “family sedan,” names like Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Hyundai Sonata come to mind. But when you think “cool family sedan,” only one name fits: the 2023 Dodge Charger.
To win the “something for everyone” award, Dodge offers a line of sedans ranging from affordable performance to pricey powerhouses. V6 trims provide a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option, an excellent way to get SUV-like winter performance without buying an SUV.
Sadly, Stellantis (Dodge’s parent company) has announced that 2023 will be the final year for the Charger, although an electric vehicle bearing the name may not be far off.
As a send-off, Dodge has created the “Last Call” models, seven limited-production special editions that resurrect the past with names like King Daytona, Shaker, Swinger, and Super Bee.
On a side note, some more potent V8-powered Charger models get hit with the federal gas-guzzler tax, adding $2,100 to the SRT models’ bottom lines.
2023 Dodge Charger SXT (starting at $32,645, RWD), ($36,245, AWD)
The first in a long line of Charger trims is the entry-level SXT. It comes standard with a 292-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Power runs to the rear wheels, but buyers can opt for an AWD system with a disconnecting front axle to help reduce fuel consumption.
Although there are not a lot of exterior embellishments, the SXT benefits from the Charger’s naturally sleek styling, making it one of the more attractive base trims. Included as standard are 17-inch alloy wheels, a power trunk release, LED auto on/off headlights, and power side mirrors.
Keyless Entry’ n Go comes standard, allowing doors to unlock by touching the front door handles when the key fob is nearby. Once inside, the same system enables the push-button starter.
The SXT includes a compact spare tire, an 18.5-gallon fuel tank, an acoustic windshield, and variable intermittent wipers.
Charger cabin amenities include driver and passenger-side 1-touch up/down power windows, illuminated door handles and front cup holders, dual-zone manual climate control, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with audio, Bluetooth, and cruise controls.
The driver sits on a 6-way power seat covered in handsome Houndstooth sport cloth. The 60/40-split folding rear seat features a fold-down center armrest with built-in cup holders.
Between the SXT’s speedometer and tachometer is a configurable driver information display.
The Uconnect 4 infotainment system includes a 7-inch touchscreen, AM/FM stereo with six speakers, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, an auxiliary input jack, integrated voice command, and streaming Bluetooth.
The SXT AWD adds a few more standard features and bumps hp to 300. Additional equipment includes an 8-way power driver’s seat with 2-way power lumbar support, the Uconnect 4C infotainment system featuring an 8.4-inch touchscreen and SiriusXM satellite radio, 19-inch alloy wheels, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Also included are a performance brake upgrade, standard duty springs, a Sport mode for the electronic stability control, LED fog lights, steering wheel paddle shifters, and the Dodge Performance Pages app.
For those who don’t like the diverse array of advanced driver-assist systems found standard on every Charger competitor, you’ll be happy to know Dodge leaves the decision up to you.
That means standard safety systems are pretty much all things mandated by the government, including complete airbag protection, electronic traction and stability control, a tire-pressure monitor, a rearview monitor, rear parking sensors, and anti-lock brakes.
Hill Start Assist, also included, keeps the vehicle from rolling backward while stopped on an incline.
The Technology Group equips full-speed forward collision warning with emergency braking, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and adaptive cruise control. Also included are rain-sensing wipers and dual-zone automatic climate control.
The Plus Group adds a blind-spot monitor, heated side mirrors, LED interior lighting, a heated power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, driver’s seat memory, and leather-covered sport seats.
The Plus Group features unique to the SXT include six premium Alpine speakers powered by a 276-watt amp, a body-colored rear spoiler, a sport suspension, and, on RWD models, the Uconnect 4C infotainment system and 20-inch wheels.
The Cold Weather Group adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated side mirrors.
Additional SXT upgrades include navigation, a 9-speaker Alpine audio system, and a power sunroof. Buyers can also opt for several visual styling enhancements, such as the blackout treatment provided by the Blacktop Package.

The R/T is an RWD-only proposition, as are all the trims that follow.
Dodge adds beefier rear axles to deal with the V8’s added power and tacks on a performance exhaust, 160-mph speedometer, and 20-inch Satin Carbon wheels.
