The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning enrolls the best-selling pickup truck in America into the clean, green world of electrification.
Still a full-size truck, the Lightning extends its range this year to 240 miles when equipped with the standard battery pack. Buyers can upgrade to the extended-range battery, which increases the Lightning’s range to 320 miles. Since trailering can take a toll on range, the extended-range battery is probably a good idea, especially for those who regularly tow heavy loads.
Ford offers just four Lightning trims: Pro, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum. All but the Pro can upgrade to the extended range battery, which comes standard on the Platinum.
The F-150 Lightning features two electric motors and standard 4-wheel drive (4WD). The standard battery’s tow rating is 5,000 pounds or 7,700 pounds with the optional Max Tow Package.
With the extended-range battery, the Lightning can tow up to 7,700 pounds or 10,000 pounds with the Max Trailer Tow Package.
Payload figures range from a low of 1,656 pounds for the Platinum to 2,235 pounds for a Pro with the standard battery pack.
The only configuration is a SuperCrew crew cab with a 5.5-foot bed.
Ford F-150 Lightning models may qualify for a $7,500 federal tax credit as well as any state or local EV credits offered in your state.
Other full-size electric pickups to consider include the Chevrolet Silverado EV, the Ram 1500 Rev, and the Rivian R1T.

2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro: $49,995
The Pro is a basic work truck best suited for fleet use. It does not offer the extended-range battery and has a limited options list.
The Pro has a 98-kWh battery, 4WD, and a 240-mile range. Owners can charge at home with the 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro or a less efficient 240V mobile power cord.
When on the road, the Blue Oval Charging Network offers up to 75,000 charging stations available through various providers.
Although the Charge Station Pro comes standard with the extended-range battery, it costs an additional $1,310 for models with the standard battery pack. On the plus side, should your home lose power, The Lightning can send power back through Charge Station Pro, providing your home with electricity for up to three days.
The Pro Power Onboard feature supplies 2.4 kW of power for running tools, laptops, or whatever needs a plug to operate. You’ll find 120-volt outlets in the cab, bed, and power-operated Mega Power Frunk (front trunk).
The frunk also features USB-C and USB-A charge ports, 14.1 cubic feet of storage space, and the ability to hold up to 400 pounds. It even comes with drain plugs, should you decide to make it into a giant cooler.
The Pro has black bumpers and grille, LED headlights, front tow hooks, 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, remote keyless entry, and a lift-assist lockable tailgate.
The F-150 Lightning Pro also has an e-locking rear axle, Class IV trailer hitch, Trailer Sway Control, and four selectable drive modes: Normal, Tow/Haul, Sport, and Off-Road.
The Pro’s cabin couldn’t be more straightforward. It includes vinyl floor and seat coverings, manually adjustable heated front seats, a 60/40-split flip-up rear seat, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with Bluetooth, cruise, and audio controls.
Amenities include a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a 12-inch infotainment touchscreen featuring Sync 4, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in navigation, and access to a FordPass Connect Wi-Fi hot spot.
The Pro’s standard audio is an FM radio and six speakers (AM radio is no longer offered).
On the safety front, the Pro includes Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0, which contains forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, and a lane-keeping assist.
Automatic high-beam headlights, rear parking sensors, reverse automatic emergency braking, and a rearview camera are all included.
Options for the Pro include an onboard scale built into the bed, the Max Trailer Tow Package, and a 9.6 kW Pro Power Onboard upgrade.
The Tow Technology Package adds heated power mirrors, a 360-degree camera, and LED side mirror spotlights. It also adds Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, which automatically regulates the steering, throttle, and brake input when hooking up a trailer.

2023 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro includes:
- Co-Pilot 360 2.0 – Ford’s driver-assist suite acts like a second set of eyes, helping drivers avoid accidents and minor fender benders.

2023 Ford F-150 Lightning XLT: $54,995 (Standard Range), $69,995 (Extended Range)
The XLT offers more features and an optional extended-range battery pack. However, upgrading the battery requires ordering the 312A Equipment which, combined with the $10,000 extended-range battery, creates a large price increase over the base XLT.
Building off the Pro, the XLT adds lighted running boards, the BoxLink bed system with four locking cleats, color-keyed bumpers, the SecuriCode keyless entry keypad, and heated side mirrors with LED spotlights.
The XLT cabin gains carpeting, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals, cloth upholstery, an 8-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, extended work surfaces, a rear window defroster, and rear under-seat storage.
The XLT’s audio system adds SiriusXM 360L satellite radio, while Co-Pilot 360 gains a 360-degree camera and front parking sensors.
The XLT Equipment Group 312A brings 20-inch gray alloy wheels, a 10-way power driver’s seat, a power passenger seat with power lumbar, a heated steering wheel, an Intelligent Access proximity key fob, and rain-sensing wipers. The package also adds a power tailgate, LED box lighting, the 9.6-kW Power Onboard system, a tailgate step, and Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0, which features adaptive cruise control with lane centering, traffic sign recognition, intersection assist, and connected built-in navigation.

Building off the XLT, the Lariat adds power-folding side mirrors with driver’s side auto-dimming glass, high-intensity LED approach lamps, 20-inch alloy wheels, 9.6-kW Pro Power Onboard, Intelligent Access with push-button start, and a power tailgate.
Amenities include a power-sliding rear window, Ice Blue ambient interior lighting, a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable pedals, driver’s seat memory (includes pedal and mirror placement), leather upholstery, and ventilated front seats.
An audio upgrade by Bang & Olufsen features eight speakers and a high-powered amp.
The Lariat also gains Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0, an enhanced Sync 4 system with a 15-inch touchscreen, a wireless charging pad, and an updated security system with inclination and intrusion sensors.
The $7,5000 Lariat 511A Equipment Group High Group adds the extended range battery, a twin-panel moonroof, the Tow Technology Package, heated rear seats, rain-sensing wipers, and a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel.

An upgraded B&O Unleashed audio system features 18 speakers and a 1,080-watt amp.
The Platinum includes the Tow Technology Package, a twin-panel moonroof, Max Trailer Tow Package, Active Park Assist 2.0, and BlueCruise 1.0.
Buyers get the Ford Charge Station Pro, along with the extended-range battery, which requires installation in your home or garage.
