2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E returns with its Premium grade receiving a bump in range to 290 miles. Ford is also making its Co-Pilot360 suite of safety and driver-aid technologies standard for all trims. The other notable enhancement? Ford has added a fixed-glass panoramic roof to all but the base Select grade.

If you are a fan of the piston-powered Mustang coupe, you won’t find much in common with the Mach-E other than “Mustang” in the name and the running-pony logo. An all-electric crossover, the Mach-E is more about fulfilling its electric vehicle (EV) role in the Ford lineup than furthering the Mustang legend. The Mach-E’s four trim levels (Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT) cover a scope of needs from long-range to sporty performance.

Swimming in waters populated with the Tesla Model Y, Audi e-tron, and Jaguar I-Pace, the Mach-E holds its own in the spirited-driving department. This is particularly true of the GT with its $5,000 performance battery.

We like the Mach-E for its sporty driving nature, roomy and well-appointed interior, and bigger-than-expected front trunk (frunk). We are equally impressed with its high level of technology.

The Select and Premium grades come with rear-wheel drive (RWD). An optional upgrade on Select and Premium, all-wheel drive (AWD) is standard on California Route 1 and GT grades. Every Mach-E features three selective driving modes: Engage, Whisper, and one-pedal driving.

In some mid-2023 news, Ford has switched to a new lithium-iron phosphate standard battery, which speed charge times a bit and has bumped the range of the RWD Mach-E to 250 miles and and the AWD model to 225 miles. Ford also has made BlueCruise available on all Mach-Es via a complimentary 90-day plan. If you end up liking this hands-free driving technology, you can then sign up for a monthly plan.

Let’s see how the four Mach-E grades differ.

A 15.5-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 6-speaker audio system, and satellite-radio capability head up the infotainment system. Navigation is standard, too.

Ford also equips the Mach-E with its subscription-based FordPass Connect capability. When you activate it, it offers a Wi-Fi hot spot, Phone As a Key, a charging station locator, and more.

The Co-Pilot360 technologies include high-beam assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist with steering, rear cross-traffic alert, and rain-sensing wipers. Also standard is forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection. Rear-park assist, reverse automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and a surround-view camera are also standard.

Other than AWD, Ford doesn’t offer any factory-installed options.

Adding the $1,800 factory delivery fee to the Select base price brings the total to $44,755. With $0 down, financing for 60 months at 5% interest works out to about $845 per month. See the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E Select for sale near you
