The Ford Transit is a full-size van available in seemingly infinite configurations. The five basic variants of the Transit are Cargo Van, Crew Van, Passenger Van, Cutaway, and Chassis Cab. Which one is right for your business or your family depends on what you need in a big van.
The Transit is also available in three lengths with three roof heights and three engine options. The base engine is a trusty 3.5-liter V6. There’s also an EcoBoost turbocharged V6 with more power and torque. Lastly, there’s an all-electric Ford E-Transit available capable of up to 126 miles of range, but you can’t get a Crew Van or a Passenger Van with the electric powertrain. The competition is slim, with just the Ram ProMaster, GMC Savana, Chevrolet Express, and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in the full-size van field.
Let’s take a closer look at the diverse Ford Transit model range and find the right van for you.

See what we mean? The 2023 Ford Transit Cargo Van is available in more than 40 unique configurations.
There are a few things that all configurations of the Transit have in common. For starters, a naturally aspirated V6 is standard, and a turbocharged V6 is optional in all of them. The configurations with “E-Transit” in the name are the ones with the electric powertrain.
Rear-wheel drive (RWD) comes standard, but all-wheel drive (AWD) is one of our favorite options on the Transit. The only other van in this class with this available feature is the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, where AWD has a higher cost of entry.
Standard features on the Transit Cargo Van include 16-inch steel wheels, vinyl seats (cloth and leather are optional), a vinyl floor, air conditioning, power windows and locks, Bluetooth, two USB ports, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, rain-sensing wipers, and Ford Pro Telematics.
In addition to the long list of configurations above, you can add many additional options to the Transit. Highlights include alloy wheels, running boards, power sliding doors, 253-degree swing-out rear cargo doors, 60/40 hinged passenger-side cargo doors, cloth or leather seats, a SYNC 4 12-inch infotainment system with navigation, a front overhead shelf, and all kinds of safety features like blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, and a camera mirror.
A notable new entry in the Transit lineup this year is the Transit Trail. This rugged van is intended to be upfitted as a camper or overlanding rig. It includes a special appearance package, AWD, a 3.5-inch lift, a roof vent, all-terrain tires, and swivel front seats. The Transit Trail is available only as a Cargo Van.
When you factor in the $1,795 destination fee, the starting price of the Transit cargo van comes to $45,250. If you get one with a 60-month loan at 3% interest with no trade-in or money down, it will have a monthly payment starting at around $854. See the 2023 Ford Transit Cargo Van for sale near you
2023 Ford Transit Cargo Van includes:
Three powertrain options — The Transit is available with a trustworthy V6, a more powerful turbocharged EcoBoost V6, and an electric motor capable of up to 126 miles of range.
Transit Trail — The all-new Transit Trail is for outdoor enthusiasts looking for a camping rig. It has standard AWD, all-terrain tires, a 3.5-inch lift, a roof vent, and a rugged appearance package.
Available all-wheel drive — The Transit is one of the few full-size vans available with AWD, making it suitable for snowy roads and light off-roading.

The electric powertrain and Transit Trail configuration are unavailable with the Crew Van. Other than that, the configuration options for the Crew Van are similar to the Cargo Van. Vinyl seats are still standard, and cloth is optional, but curiously, you can’t get leather seats in the Crew Van.
In addition to a row of rear seats, the Crew Van also adds rear side-curtain airbags to keep your passengers safe.
The Crew Van starts at about $899 per month if you get one with a 60-month loan at 5% interest and no money down. See 2023 Ford Transit Crew Vans for sale near you
2023 Ford Transit Crew Van includes:
2-row seating — Seating for up to five adds some versatility to the Crew Van compared to the 2-seater Cargo Van.
Rear side-curtain airbags — The Crew Van keeps your rear-seat passengers safe with standard side-curtain airbags for both rows.
Rear side windows— Your crew on the 3-seat rear bench can look out the tinted rear side glass.

The Passenger Van is suitable for a business that needs to move a lot of people to a worksite or a family that needs to move a lot of kids to church.
The Passenger Van expands on the side-curtain airbags that come with the Crew Van. Ford’s Safety Canopy System spans the length of the vehicle to protect your many passengers.
In base XL trim, the Passenger Van is pretty spartan, with standard and optional features similar to the Cargo Van. It has standard cloth seats rather than vinyl, and heating and air conditioning ducts are in the back for your passengers’ comfort.
The Transit Passenger Van XL starts at $980 a month with a 60-month loan at 5% interest and no money down. See the 2023 Ford Transit Passenger Van XL for sale near you
