2023 Genesis G90: Choosing the Right Trim

To much fanfare, the 2023 Genesis G90 arrives wholly redesigned. Consequently, it’s brimming with a grocery list of the most current driver-assist technologies. The crown jewel of the Genesis lineup, the reimagined G90 will turn heads and impress even the most jaded techie.

Providing the foundation for the two-trim stable is the 3.5T AWD, followed by the flagship 3.5T e-Supercharger AWD. As one might guess, these nameplates reflect the engine percolating beneath their respective hoods.

Both use a version of a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6. For the 3.5T e-Supercharger, Genesis adds an electric supercharger and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system (MHEV). No matter the trim, an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters transfers engine production to all four wheels.

Up against the likes of the Audi A8 with its superbly crafted cabin, the renewed G90 meets the challenge. Not only does it offer scads of passenger space, but it includes upmarket elements like supple Nappa leather upholstery. Massaging front seats, Bang & Olufsen audio systems, and a selectable air-fragrance diffuser are also standard.

Standard in both grades is Hyundai’s Highway Driving Assist II. This advanced driver-assistance technology steers, brakes, and accelerates on its own in certain driver conditions. Moreover, it can initiate safe lane changes and keep the vehicle centered.

Active Noise Control uses sound-canceling technology, measuring sound levels at each seat to control noise levels. The Mood Curator provides selectable environments harmonizing the ambient lighting, fragrance, and more.

Regardless of what you touch, where you look, or what you hear, your senses are pleasantly surprised.

Let’s see what the two grades offer.

2023 Genesis G90 3.5T AWD (starting at $88,400)

Propelling its all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, the 3.5 T’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 generates 375 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque. EPA fuel economy checks in at 18 mpg city/26 mpg highway/21 mpg combined.

An electronically controlled suspension uses a front-pointed camera to monitor the roadway ahead to maximize ride comfort. The suspension adapts accordingly to the road surface.

Other features include 10 airbags, 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, power-close doors, a hands-free power trunk lid, and rain-sensing wipers. LED headlights and taillights, power-folding auto-dimming outboard mirrors, and a heated power-adjustable steering wheel are also standard.

Nappa leather upholstery and 16-way power-adjustable front seats with massage, heating, and ventilation pamper front-seat guests. Rear-seat occupants can warm their bottoms with heated seats, as well. Adding to the opulent interior environment are wood accents, the Mood Curator, selectable ambient lighting, and a microfiber suede headliner.

Other standard fare includes tri-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a HomeLink transceiver, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and five USB ports. Wireless phone charging is standard, too.

A 12.3-inch touchscreen oversees a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, Bluetooth, navigation, satellite-radio capability, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Helping to keep you and yours safe is an extensive bundle of safety and driver-aid technologies, beginning with forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Also included are lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, and blind-spot monitoring with steering assist. A head-up display is standard, too.

Rear cross-traffic alert with automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, high-beam assist, and Highway Driving Assist II also make the cut. Wrapping up the driver aids are speed-limit assist, driver attention warning, a surround-view camera, front-rear park assist, and remote smart parking assist.

The 3.5T AWD is well equipped. No surprise, there aren’t any factory-installed options.

Adding the $1,095 destination fee to the 3.5T AWD base price brings the total to $89,495. With no money down, financing for 60 months at 3% interest works out to about $1,608 per month. See 2023 Genesis 3.5T AWD models for sale

2023 Genesis G90 3.5T AWD includes:

Remote smart parking assist – After you exit the G90, this feature helps drivers park the car within tight spots using the Smart Key.

Auto-dimming mirrors – Photosensors recognize bright headlights closing from behind,  automatically dimming their reflection. The inside rearview and both outboard mirrors have this auto-dimming function.

Hands-free power trunk lid – With the key fob on your person, you can stick your foot under the rear bumper, and the trunk lid automatically opens.

2023 Genesis G90 3.5T e-Supercharger AWD
(starting at $98,700)

Although priced at nearly $100,000, the G90 3.5T e-Supercharger model has a lot of baked-in value.  At the top of the list of enhancements is the more powerful 409-hp mild-hybrid (MHEV) version of the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that adds the electric supercharger. It delivers 405 lb-ft of torque. Shaving a little from the 3.5 T’s mileage, its EPA fuel economy numbers are 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway/21 mpg combined.

The 3.5T e-Supercharger gains rear-wheel steering, a multi-chamber air suspension, and 21-inch alloy wheels along with the more potent powertrain. Also on the upgrade list are easy-close power doors, ventilated power-adjustable rear seats with massage, and rear-seat vanity mirrors.

In-car entertainment leaps forward with the 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D premium audio system. A second wireless phone charger for the rear seat is also standard.

There are no factory-installed options.

Adding the destination fee to the 3.5T e-Supercharger base price totals $99,795. Financing for 60 months at 3% interest with no money down works out to a monthly payment of about $1,793. See 2023 Genesis 3.5T e-Supercharger AWD models for sale

2023 Genesis G90 3.5T e-Supercharger AWD includes:

MHEV powertrain – Based on the 3.5 T’s twin-turbo V6, this powertrain adds an electric supercharger and a 48-volt hybrid system to boost power and hold the line on gas mileage.

Rear-wheel steering – At low speeds, the rear wheels turn opposite the fronts, decreasing the turning radius. At highway speeds, the rear wheels turn slightly in the same direction as the fronts, increasing stability.

Air suspension – Engineered to increase ride comfort and enhance handling, this suspension can adjust ride height as well as the damping force of the shock absorbers.
