The GMC Savana is one of the last of its kind. Alongside the mechanically identical Chevrolet Express, the Savana is the last of the old-school, truck-based, full-size work vans. It uses body-on-frame architecture, which contributes to its truck-like capabilities, including a class-leading maximum tow rating.
There are two engines available in every configuration of the Savana. The base engine is a 276-horsepower 4.3-liter V6 that can tow up to 7,400 pounds. If you need extra muscle, an optional 401-hp 6.6-liter V8 tows up to 10,000 pounds.
The Savana has three basic configurations: Cargo Van, Passenger Van, and Cutaway Van. On the surface, they’re pretty self-explanatory, but we’ll dive into each to find the right work van for your business.

The GMC Savana Cargo Van is a no-nonsense work van at the base level. This version is for businesses that can benefit from a simple and affordable work van with few frills and muscular capabilities.
The Cargo Van is available in regular and extended wheelbases. The standard wheelbase van has a cargo volume of 239.4 cubic feet, and the longer wheelbase model can carry up to 283.6 cubic feet of cargo. The 3500 model has a higher Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (9,900 pounds versus 8,600 pounds) and a higher payload rating than the 2500 model.

There are a few desirable option packages available for the Savana. In addition to the extra seats, the other significant differences in the Passenger Van are the extra windows and rear air vents. The windows on the sides and the rear doors greatly expand the greenhouse of the Savana, and the additional air vents help to keep your passengers comfortable.
Besides those differences, the standard and optional features lists are similar to the Cargo Van.
