2023 Jeep Compass: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2023 Jeep Compass takes the subcompact crossover to places it rarely reaches. Looking like a Jeep Grand Cherokee left in the dryer too long, the Compass brims with style and personality. It offers several trims with broad appeal, a relatively upscale interior, and a new engine and transmission designed to improve performance and fuel economy.

Built on the same platform as the Jeep Renegade, the Compass adds a few more inches in length and interior space, placing it squarely between the tiny Renegade and compact Cherokee. The Compass has plenty of competition from the Subaru Crosstrek, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taos, and Ford Bronco Sport.

Power for the Compass trims comes from an all-new 200-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine hitched to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Jeep’s Active Drive all-wheel drive (AWD) is standard on all but the Trailhawk, which gets a more advanced Active Drive Low with a 20:1 crawl ratio.

2023 Jeep Compass Sport: $29,995

The Compass Sport may appear more expensive than most competitor base models, but keep in mind its standard all-wheel drive and extensive feature set.

Active Drive all-wheel drive comes standard, with Selec-Terrain modes for driving in snow, mud, and sand.

The Sport rides on 17-inch painted aluminum wheels with all-season tires. Auto on/off LED headlights come standard, as do heated power side mirrors, variable intermittent front wipers, a rear liftback wiper/washer, deep-tinted rear privacy glass, and keyless entry with a remote fob.

The Sport’s cabin features cloth upholstery with blue accent stitching, manual front seats with driver’s side manual height adjustment, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat with a center armrest and cup holders. The cargo bay features a 3-position height-adjustable load floor, a cargo light, and a 12-volt outlet.

Highlights for the Sport’s interior include a tilt/telescoping steering, cruise control, a 7-inch driver information display, single-zone manual air conditioning, push-button start, one-touch up/down front power windows, and two USB ports (one Type-A and one Type-C) in the front console.

Unexpected features for a base model include a sliding center armrest, rear seat air vents, a USB-A back seat charge port, sliding sun visors with mirrors, and a damped glovebox door.

The Sport gets Jeep’s Uconnect 5 infotainment with a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The system includes a 6-speaker AM/FM radio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, SiriusXM satellite radio, and integrated voice commands with voice text reply.

Jeep equips the Sport with a healthy supply of standard driver assists, including forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic detection, lane-departure warning, and a rearview monitor.

Also included are a driver attention monitor, rear seat reminder alert, and a tire pressure monitor.

With the $1,595 destination charge, the 2023 Jeep Compass Sport comes to $31,590. On a 60-month loan at 3% financing and zero down, the monthly payment works out to about $568. See 2023 Jeep Compass Sport models for sale near you
