The 2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport returns with only a few minor content adjustments.
“Sport” is a bit of a misnomer here because this compact SUV isn’t sporty. Land Rover uses Sport to separate it from its larger, more powerful Discovery stablemate.
As Land Rover’s most affordable model, the Discovery Sport still delivers a generous dollop of luxury and some serious off-road prowess. In other words, there is plenty to like about it.
It offers a third-row seat, adding some extra practicality in a pinch.
Although we follow Land Rover’s lead and break the Discovery Sport down into four trim levels, there are really only two grades: S and SE.
The R-Dynamic S and R-Dynamic SE are the S and SE with the R-Dynamic appearance package.
Keeping things simple, Land Rover provides the 246-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder as the only engine choice. A 9-speed automatic transmission hustles engine output to all four wheels (AWD).
According to government estimates, the Discovery Sport delivers 19 mpg in the city, 23 mpg on the highway, and 20 mpg in combined driving.
As for the Discovery Sport’s off-road capability, it provides the Land Rover Terrain Response 2. This allows the driver to pick between Auto, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock Crawl.
Engaging All Terrain Progress Control maintains a steady speed uphill, downhill, and across bumpy terrain. All the driver needs to concentrate on is steering. In other words, it’s off-road cruise control.

Standard are 18-inch alloy wheels, auto on-off LED headlights, LED taillights, a power rear liftgate, and rain-sensing wipers.
Other features are rear fog lights, power-fold heated outboard mirrors with auto-dimming driver’s side, and keyless entry with push-button start.
An auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone automatic climate control, 12-way power-adjustable front seats, and heated front seats are standard.
Also included are a tilt-telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather seating, and a Homelink transceiver.
The infotainment system has a 10-inch touchscreen, a 6-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
Navigation is also standard.
The driver aids are forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and front-rear park assist.
Adaptive cruise control and driver-alert warning are included, too.
Land Rover makes available several options and option packages. For example, $625 will get you the Blind Spot Assist Package with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.
If you pony up $1,500 for the Technology Pack, you gain a head-up display and an interactive driver display.
Opting for the third-row seat will set you back $1,200.

2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport S includes:
- AWD – Although the Discovery Sport doesn’t provide a 4-Lo gear, it does have Terrain Select 2. This driver selectable-mode system provides unique chassis, engine, transmission, and center differential settings for various surfaces. They include Gravel/grass/snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock Crawl. There is an Auto mode, as well.
- Rain-sensing wipers – When the system senses moisture on the windshield, it automatically engages the wipers. The wiper speed adjusts according to the volume of the rain.
- Adaptive cruise control – Once you have engaged the system and set the speed, the system will maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front, braking and accelerating as needed.

2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport R-Dynamic S starts at $45,100.
This is the S grade with several exterior and interior R-Dynamic accents like red-brake calipers, a black headliner, silver pedals, and other sport appearance features.

2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport SE (starting at $46,800)
2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport SE starts at $46,800.
Building on the S, the SE adds 20-inch alloy wheels and premium LED headlights with signature daytime running lights.
High-beam assist, automatic headlight leveling, and a 12-speaker Meridian audio system are included.

2023 Land Rover Discovery Sport SE includes:
- High-beam assist – If your vehicle has this system, the high beams are always on. When photosensors or a forward pointed camera detects oncoming headlights or taillights, the system automatically switches off the high beams. Then automatically switches them back on when no vehicle lights are detected.
- Auto headlight leveling – Responding to heavy loads in the cargo area or when towing, auto-leveling headlights compensate to remain aimed at the road.
- Meridian audio system – This 400-watt audio system includes 11 speakers and a subwoofer.

Including the same appearance elements as the R-Dynamic S, the R-Dynamic SE is a sporty appearance package added to the SE.
