2023 Mercedes-EQ EQB: Choosing the Right Trim

The Mercedes-EQ EQB is the German luxury brand’s smallest and most affordable electric SUV available in the United States. Inside and out, it’s aesthetically similar to the gas-powered Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class, but with the distinction of having an all-electric powertrain.

The EQB 250+ joins the lineup as the new base model for 2023. It’s the most affordable and longest-range option, making it a practical choice. Also adding to the functionality of the EQB is optional 3-row seating, a rarity in an SUV this size.

The chief rivals of the Mercedes-EQ EQB are the Tesla Model Y (also available with 3-row seating), the Audi Q4 e-tron, and the more affordable Volkswagen ID.4.

Let’s take a closer look at the new Mercedes-EQ EQB model range and find the right electric SUV for you.

The EQB 250+ is the new base model for this electric SUV. This single-motor, front-wheel-drive model has the most extended driving range in the EQB family; 250 miles on a full charge. It produces 188 horsepower and 284 lb-ft of torque, which is plenty for most drivers.

Standard features include 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, a power liftgate, MB-Tex synthetic leather upholstery, 40/20/40-split folding back seats, dual-zone climate control, ambient interior lighting, a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, a 10.25-inch MBUX infotainment system with smartphone integration and navigation, four USB-C ports, parking sensors, automatic high beams, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring.

Polar White and Night Black paint colors are available at no extra cost. Eight metallic paint options, including Galaxy Blue, are exclusive to the EQB 250+ trim. There are also five wheel options and two interior color options (black and Macchiato Beige).

A few options packages make the EQB more luxurious. The Exclusive Package ($1,250) adds the Keyless-Go package (you can unlock the doors by tapping the door handle), a wireless charging pad, NFC device pairing, and an advanced sound system.

The Pinnacle Package ($3,800) has the contents of the Exclusive Package plus a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, and a Burmester premium audio system.

If your budget allows it, we recommend the Driver Assistance Package Lite ($1,300) for its long list of safety features. It has active steering assist, active blind-spot assist, lane-keep assist, speed limit assist, Distronic adaptive cruise control, lane-change assist, evasive steering assist, route-based speed adaptation, and more.

A Technology Package ($2,000) does what its name implies and adds a head-up display, the MBUX interior assistant (responds to “Hey Mercedes” voice prompts), traffic sign assist, and augmented video with the navigation system.

If you want sporty styling with your premium SUV, consider the AMG Night Package ($3,250). It adds AMG body styling, AMG wheels, black exterior trim, sport pedals, sport seats, a Nappa leather sport steering wheel, spiral-look backlit interior trim, and AMG floor mats.

Available individual options include leather seat upholstery, wood interior trim (available in black linden or brown walnut), heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a third row of seats, a panoramic sunroof, SiriusXM, and a garage door opener.
