Think of the 2023 Volvo V90 Cross Country as a larger version of the V60 Cross Country wagon. It offers many of the same luxury touches but with a larger rear seat, more cargo space, and a more powerful 295-horsepower mild-hybrid engine. Volvo makes every possible passive and active safety system standard, while many luxury brands provide a basic safety package with optional upgrades. That means the V90 Cross Country Plus includes forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic detection with rear braking.
Additional equipment includes a driver attention monitor, road sign information (displays an icon in the instrument cluster showing the posted speed limit), and Oncoming Lane Mitigation that steers the car back into its lane should it cross the divider line into oncoming traffic.
The Plus trim also includes adaptive cruise control and Volvo’s Pilot Assist, which can automatically steer the car on roads with clear lane markings. This system works with adaptive cruise control to keep the V90 centered in its lane without input from the driver. However, this is not a fully autonomous system; it will prompt you to keep your hands on the wheel after about 20 seconds.
Rounding out the safety system is a 360-degree Surround View camera, front and rear parking sensors, slippery road alert, and hazard light alert, which warns if another Volvo driver has activated their hazard lights. The system works via the cloud-based infotainment system, sharing information about road conditions or disabled vehicles with other Volvos using the same system.

The V90 Cross Country Plus includes a configurable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, ambient interior lighting, and a large center touchscreen controlling media, climate, and various interior features such as the heated seats.
Google built-in comes standard, granting access to Google Assistant, Google Maps, and the Google Play store. Apple CarPlay is also included (late availability), as are Volvo connected services, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluetooth streaming.
