2024 Acura ZDX: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2024 Acura ZDX springs from a collaboration between Honda and General Motors, sharing its Ultium battery technology and architecture with the Cadillac Lyriq. Unlike the original ZDX, the EV version isn’t as radical in design, but that’s a good thing, as the upright greenhouse allows for plentiful headroom and cargo space.

Acura offers the ZDX in two trims: A-Spec and Type S. The Type S uses a dual electric motor setup producing 500 horsepower. At the same time, the A-Spec gets a less powerful single electric motor that is still good for 358 horsepower. The A-Spec offers all-wheel drive and the same dual-motor setup as the Type S but with 10 fewer horses.

Acura says the rear-drive ZDX A-Spec can travel 313 miles on a charge, while the A-Spec AWD travels 304. The more powerful Type S sees its range drop to 278 miles.

Although there are few competitors in this segment, you can cross-shop the ZDX against the Audi Q8 e-tron, BMW iX, Lexus RZ, and Genesis GV60.

Let’s look closer and see which ZDX is right for you.

What’s New:

Acura resurrects the ZDX nameplate for its all-new, all-electric SUV platform. The ZDX slots nicely between the compact RDX and midsize MDX, a size many buyers find just right.

Our Recommendation:

We think the A-Spec has all the features most luxury buyers want in an EV. However, if the Type S’s additional $10,000 asking price isn’t a deterrent, the hands-free driving feature and additional performance mods make it our choice as the one to get.

These are the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) and include the $1,350 factory-to-dealer delivery fee (destination charge). Prices are current at the time of publishing.

2024 Acura ZDX A-Spec: $65,850 (RWD); $69,850 (AWD)

If you’re not a performance fanatic, we think the A-Spec will satisfy most customers looking for the right balance of price, features, and range. The rear-drive A-Spec provides rapid acceleration and the farthest range, maxing out around 313 miles.

The A-Spec rolls on big 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in self-sealing all-season tires. Its standard equipment roster includes a power liftgate, a panoramic moonroof, Jewel Eye LED headlights, and power-folding heated side mirrors with a tilt-down-in-reverse feature. There’s also dark-tinted rear privacy glass, rain-sensing wipers with headlight activation, and proximity keyless entry.

The A-Specs luxurious interior impresses with perforated Milano leather upholstery, heated and ventilated 12-way power front seats with power lumbar support, and a 2-position driver’s seat memory. The heated steering wheel is power-adjustable and includes regenerative brake paddles.

Other cabin amenities count dual-zone automatic climate control, auto up/down power windows, an ebony headliner, ambient interior lighting, a wireless phone charger, and an 11-inch digital instrument cluster.

The ZDX’s 11.3-inch center display screen houses the infotainment suite and includes a physical volume knob. You’ll get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, Google built-in, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and AcuraLink supported by GM’s OnStar network.

The entire infotainment bundle gets routed to your ears via an 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system with four ceiling-mounted speakers for a truly immersive audio experience.

There are two 12-volt sockets (one up front and one in the cargo bay) and four USB ports, two in front and two USB-C ports for rear seat occupants.

Finally, we come to the safety portion of our review, which, even by Acura standards, is comprehensive. Contained within the A-Spec’s AcuraWatch driver-assist suite are forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane-keeping assist, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert and braking, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic high-beam headlights.

Also included is adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, reverse automatic braking, lane-change alert, and blind-zone steering assist that can steer the car back into its lane if detecting an unsafe lane change.

Opting for all-wheel drive brings a dual-motor setup that is good for 490 horsepower and roof rails.

Although Acura offers no factory packages, buyers can choose between a home or portable charging bundle (included in the vehicle’s list price). The home-charging bundle consists of a $500 installation credit and $100 in public charging credits on the EVgo network. The portable bundle adds a $250 installation credit and $300 in charging credits with EVgo.

On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the 2024 Acura ZDX A-Spec monthly payment starts at $1,243. See 2024 Acura ZDX A-Spec models for sale near you

2024 Acura ZDX A-Spec includes:

Panoramic moonroof – The ZDX’s large glass moonroof can tilt up for better airflow or slide open for maximum sun and fresh air.

Bang & Olufsen audio – The standard Bang & Olufsen audio system delivers brilliant highs and gut-punching bass, precisely what music lovers demand.

12-way front seats – The A-Spec’s power front seats include 4-way power lumbar support and the ability to heat or cool occupants.

2024 Acura ZDX Type S: $74,850

The Type S builds off the A-Spec, bringing 500 hp, all-wheel drive, more performance features, and better tech.

On the performance front, the Type S rides on 22-inch alloy wheels and gets larger front and rear stabilizer bars, a quicker ratio power steering setup, adaptive shock dampers, Brembo 6-piston performance front brakes, and larger ventilated rear disc brakes.

The Type S has a hands-free power liftgate, a gloss black roof, and a rear tailgate spoiler camera with a washer.

The Type S cabin enjoys 16-way power front seats with thigh extension and side bolsters, 2-position passenger seat memory, and heated rear seats. The tri-zone automatic climate control includes a rear seat control panel.

Additional Type S upgrades include a digital rearview mirror, ambient footwell lighting, a 110-volt outlet, and a head-up display.

But, the best reason to opt for the Type S is the addition of AcuraWatch 360+, which brings hands-free driving, an automatic parking assistant, a surround-view monitor, rear pedestrian alert, and upgraded front and rear parking sensors.

The Preferred Wheel and Tire Package is optional on the Type S, which adds 22-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in summer performance tires.

On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the 2024 Acura ZDX Type S monthly payment starts at $1,413. See 2024 Acura ZDX Type S models for sale near you

2024 Acura ZDX Type S includes:

Brembo brakes – High-performance Brembo front brakes help bring the ZDX to a rapid halt and resist fading after repeated use.

Hands-free driving – With the Type S, you can safely take your hands off the wheel and let the ZDX drive itself (but only on approved roads).

Automatic parking assist – When done letting the Type S drive, find an open parking spot, and the car will park itself.
