The X2 is a subcompact luxury SUV with a sloping roofline, giving it a sportier look at the expense of some cargo space. If you want the utility of a small SUV, but you’re not into the boxy look, the stylish X2 might be for you. It’s also the most budget-friendly of the coupe-like SUVs in BMW’s 2024 lineup.
The closest competitors to the BMW X2 are the Mercedes-Benz GLA and Audi Q3. If you like the SUV coupe look, the BMW X4, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, and Audi Q5 Sportback are bigger, pricier options.

2024 BMW X2 xDrive28i: $42,000
The powertrain in the X2 xDrive28i features a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine producing 241 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission. BMW says this X2 hits 60 in 6.2 seconds. We expect its fuel economy to be very similar to the X1 with the same powertrain, which returns 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway/26 mpg combined, according to the EPA.
Standard features of the 2024 BMW X2 include a power liftgate, LED headlights, Shadowline exterior trim, perforated Veganza upholstery, power front seats, black high-gloss interior trim with ambient light, a SensaTec dashboard, dual-zone automatic climate control, and an Anthracite headliner.
The standard BMW Curved Display houses a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10.7-inch central information display. Other standard infotainment features include navigation, SiriusXM, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
Standard safety tech features include active blind-spot detection, frontal collision warning with city collision mitigation, lane-departure warning, speed limit info, and Active Park Distance Control.
The Driving Assistance Professional Package ($1,700) is the option we recommend the most. At a modest price bump, it adds essential safety tech features like full-speed adaptive cruise control, active lane-keeping assistant with side-collision avoidance, and traffic jam assistant.
The M Sport Package ($2,500) makes the X2 a sportier SUV, befitting its coupe-like design. In addition to its sporty appearance package with 19-inch wheels, it has performance upgrades like paddle shifters, adaptive M suspension, and M Sport brakes with blue calipers. You also get sport seats, Aluminum Hexacube trim, and an M steering wheel. There’s also an M Sport Professional Package ($800) you can add on top of the M Sport package, which adds more black exterior trim, red brake calipers, a rear spoiler, and M Sport seats.
Several option packages can make the X2 more luxurious and high-tech. The Convenience Package ($1,850) adds power-folding mirrors, auto-dimming mirrors, Comfort Access keyless entry, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad, and BMW Digital Key Plus.
The Technology Package ($3,200) adds the contents of the Convenience Package, plus Parking Assistant Plus, a head-up display, Live Cockpit Pro with a head-up display and augmented reality, an anti-theft recorder, and a surround-view mirror.
Finally, the Premium Package ($4,000) adds everything that comes with the Technology Package, plus a universal garage door opener, an interior camera, and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.
