The BMW X5 is one of the best-selling midsize luxury SUVs, and changes for 2024 aim to keep it that way. The first X5 trims are the sDrive40i and its all-wheel-drive twin, the xDrive40i. Both feature a 375-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine. An 8-speed automatic transmission includes an integrated 48-volt mild-hybrid electric motor that adds a 12-hp boost when you need maximum acceleration.
For 2024, the X5, which is built in South Carolina, gets a new look with narrowed headlights and an available illuminated twin-kidney grille.
Exterior features include 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in run-flat tires, power-folding heated side mirrors with driver’s auto-dimming feature and reverse tilt-down, and the Comfort Access keyless entry system that allows door unlocking and starting the vehicle without having to remove the key fob from your purse or pocket.

Power comes from a 3.0-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine paired with a 194-hp electric motor for a combined output of 483 hp. A 25.7-kWh battery stores enough electricity to power the X5 xDrive50e for about 40 miles.
As the model name indicates, BMW’s xDrive AWD comes standard.
Building off the same standard and optional features as the X5 xDrive40i, the 50e adds a 2-axle air suspension, a flexible fast charger, an acoustic sound generator to warn pedestrians, and unique instrument cluster graphics for the EV system.
