The sharp-looking Buick Envista is new to the lineup for 2024. It’s a compact SUV based on the same chassis as the new 2024 Chevrolet Trax. It’s the most affordable Buick in the 2024 lineup, and yet it’s larger and more spacious inside than its Encore GX sibling.
The 2024 Buick Envista is nearly a foot longer than the boxier and pricier Encore GX, with a 4.1-inch longer wheelbase.
The Envista is the first Buick to use the company’s new modern design language, first seen on the striking Wildcat show car last year. Not surprisingly, we like the Envista’s silhouette, forward-leaning nose, and intricate grille.
All Envista models are powered by a turbocharged 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine that sends 136 horsepower and a respectable 162 lb-ft of torque exclusively to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Safety is addressed with Buick Driver Confidence, which is standard on all three trim levels. In addition to a forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, this safety suite includes a lane-departure warning, a following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights.
Adaptive cruise control, which adjusts to the traffic speed, can be ordered on all trim levels, as can rear cross-traffic alert and a blind-spot monitor.
The 2024 Buick Envista will be offered in three trim levels when it goes on sale in the summer of 2023: Preferred, Sport Touring (ST), and Avenir.
Although EPA fuel-economy numbers have not been released for the new Envista, we expect them to match those of the mechanically similar Chevy Trax, rated at 28 mpg city/32 mpg highway/30 mpg combined.
Competition for the Chinese-built 2024 Buick Envista abounds. Noteworthy among them are its Chevrolet Trax cousin, which starts at $21,495, plus others like the Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, Nissan Kicks, and Toyota Corolla Cross.

2024 Buick Envista Preferred: $22,400
Although the Envista Preferred is technically a base model, remember that Buick is one of GM’s premium brands. As such, the affordable Preferred model comes equipped with an 8-inch digital instrument panel, an 11-inch infotainment touchscreen, and other niceties like automatic climate control and a flat-bottom steering wheel.
In Buick tradition, the Envista Preferred also comes standard with QuietTuning active noise cancellation, so we expect it to be hushed inside, even when that 1.2-liter engine is working hard.
Although this new compact Buick SUV is a 5-seater with good rear legroom, we suspect you won’t want to be the middle passenger in the back. We see the Envista as more of a 4-seater that can accommodate five in a pinch.
The rear seat, by the way, splits 60/40 and folds forward to accommodate large cargo. There’s 20.7 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seat and 42 cubic feet when the seat is folded down. While that’s less roomy in the back than the shorter but boxier Encore GX (23.5/50.2), Buick says objects that are 7.5 feet long can fit diagonally in the back of the new Envista.
Two interior colors are available on the Envista Preferred: Ebony and Ebony/Slate.
Other welcome standard fare on the 2024 Buick Envista Preferred includes LED headlights and taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels, and daytime running lamps.
You also get the Buick Driver Confidence standard. It’s highlighted by a forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking (and pedestrian detection), plus a lane-departure warning, a following distance indicator, and automatic high-beam headlights.
There are two optional safety features we highly recommend. The rear cross-traffic alert is a huge help when backing out of your driveway onto a busy street, and Buick’s Lane Change Alert, aided by a blind-spot monitor, makes lane changes much safer. (Interestingly, these features are only optional on every Envista trim level, even the Avenir flagship.)
Two other options worthy of serious consideration are adaptive cruise control and a power liftgate. Heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power driver’s seat, and a wireless smartphone charger are also available.

2024 Buick Envista Sport Touring: $24,100
The Envista looks especially sharp in Sport Touring trim, with the gloss-black 18-inch alloy wheels, gloss-black mirror caps, and dark ST mesh grille lending this Buick an almost Lamborghini Urus vibe. That’s strange, we know.
Inside, the Envista Sport Touring is set apart by leatherette upholstery with Santorini Blue stitching and embroidered ST logos on the front headrests. It also gets a leather-covered steering wheel.
Beneath the skin, the powertrain of the ST is identical to that of the Envista Preferred. But while all 2024 Buick Envista models are equipped with a semi-independent torsion-beam rear axle, the ST, when ordered with 19-inch wheels, gets a Watts link suspension system, which improves vehicle stability by keeping the rear axle better located laterally under the chassis. A Watts link, for the record, comes standard on the Envista Avenir.
Available features abound on the Envista Sport Touring. Two of the most desirable are a moonroof and heated front seats, but you can also order an ST with remote start, wireless smartphone charging, and a power liftgate. Recommended safety additions include adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring, complemented by rear cross-traffic alert.

2024 Buick Envista Sport Touring includes:

What sets the Avenir apart from other 2024 Buick Envista models?
Most notably, it’s the leather front upholstery in Ebony with Terracotta accents or Gideon (dark gray) with Ebony accents. But you also get a standard power liftgate, 19-inch alloy wheels in a Pearl Nickel finish, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel, and wireless smartphone charging.
A black chrome Avenir grille and body-color lower fascias front and rear highlight exterior visual enhancements. Inside, you’ll notice that the automatic climate control has piano-style keys, while each front headrest is embroidered with the word “Avenir.”
This being an Avenir model, we’d expect items or technologies like a moonroof, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring (with rear cross-traffic alert) to be standard equipment, but they remain options. Our guess: Buick worked hard to keep the base price of the 2024 Envista Avenir below $30,000. Also optional is an auto-dimming outside driver mirror.
On a more positive note, you get three years of in-vehicle Wi-Fi in the Envista Avenir and a 3-year Remote Access Plan that allows you to remotely lock or unlock your doors, start or stop the engine, or even find your parked vehicle’s location on a map.
Moreover, the 2024 Buick Envista Avenir also comes standard with three years of OnStar and the Buick Connected Services Premium Plan, which includes automatic crash response and roadside assistance.
