The Chevrolet Express and the mechanically identical GMC Savana share the oldest automotive design on the market in 2024. This commercial van came out in 1996, got a facelift in 2003, and hasn’t received any significant updates since. However, one thing that has changed over the years is engine offerings. An aluminum-block 4.3-liter V6 is the standard mill, and a 6.6-liter V8 is available in this work van’s Passenger Van and Cutaway variants. That gives the Express class-leading towing capability for a commercial van. After all these years, the trusty Chevy Express remains a van that works like a truck.
The Express competes with more modern commercial vans like the Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and Ram ProMaster.
Prices are current at the time of publication.
What’s New:
The V8 has been discontinued in the Cargo Van variants of the Chevy Express. If you want the V8, you can only get it in the Passenger Van and Cutaway versions. Also, a new 8-speed transmission is linked to the V8. Also, the previously optional infotainment system with SiriusXM, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and a USB port has been discontinued.
Our Recommendation:
Which Chevy Express is suitable for you depends entirely on your needs. If you’re in the market for the Passenger Van, we highly recommend the extra creature comforts (and dashing style) of the LT trim.
