The Chevrolet Suburban has the distinction of being the longest-used nameplate in the automotive world. It’s not quite the SUV today that it was when it first came out in 1934, but the concept hasn’t changed much. Now in its 12th generation, the Suburban carries on as a practical body-on-frame SUV possessing truck-like capabilities with independent rear suspension and a particularly roomy third-row seat.
The Chevy Suburban, available with a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, or a 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-6, competes against the Ford Expedition Max, Jeep Wagoneer L, and the mechanically similar GMC Yukon XL— all solid contenders in the hard-fought full-size SUV category.

Our Recommendation:
For most SUV shoppers, the midrange LT trim is the best buy. Its impressive standard features include leather seats, a hands-free power liftgate, and a Google-based infotainment system with Bose premium audio; plus, you can add options you can’t get on the base LS trim.

2024 Chevrolet Suburban LS: $59,200
The base Chevy Suburban LS provides the practical benefits of a truck-based, full-size SUV with some nice standard features. The standard engine is a 5.3-liter V8 engine, rated at 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. According to the EPA, it gets 17 combined mpg with rear-wheel drive (RWD) and 16 mpg with the optional 4-wheel drive (4WD). It’s available with a Duramax turbodiesel inline-6, which produces 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. This engine is the most efficient available in the Suburban, returning 23 mpg combined with RWD and 22 mpg with 4WD.
Standard features in the Suburban LS include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and taillights, assist steps, premium cloth seats, 3-row seating, tri-zone automatic climate control, remote start, two 120-volt power outlets, a tow package with Hitch Guidance, and eight USB ports (two type-A, six type-C).
The standard infotainment system has an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a Wi-Fi hot spot. Chevy Safety Assist, the standard safety suite, bundles features like automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, lane-keeping assist, following distance indicator, and automatic high beams. Additional standard safety features include rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, and a Teen Driver mode.
The optional Driver Alert Package adds more safety features, namely Lane Change Alert with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Standard features in the Suburban LT include a hands-free power liftgate, bright sill plates, leather seats (heated in front), a memory driver’s seat, an auto-dimming mirror, a universal garage door opener, a wireless charging pad, and a 12-inch digital gauge cluster.
The upgraded infotainment system is one of the biggest reasons to choose the LT. It’s a Google-based system with a 10.2-inch touchscreen and a Bose 9-speaker premium audio system.
The Suburban LT gets even nicer with the available Luxury Package, which adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, an HD Surround Vision camera, rear pedestrian alert, power-folding mirrors, a power steering column with memory, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row outboard seats, and power-folding second- and third-row seats.
