After a one-year absence, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax returns with a new look, improved interior accommodations, and more technology at a price just about anyone can stomach.
The subcompact Trax isn’t as big as a Honda CR-V or a Mazda CX-5. It’s intended for commuter duty in and around town, although it does offer a large enough rear seat to comfortably fit two adults, something that the Mazda CX-30 or Hyundai Kona can’t claim.
Chevrolet offers the Trax in five trims, ranging from economical to sporty. All feature an impressive résumé of standard safety features, equipment, and active noise cancelation, with a price spread around $4,000 between the entry-level LS and top-of-the-line Activ.
All Trax trims use the same 137-horsepower turbocharged 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
While the Trax is well-positioned to take on challengers like the Nissan Kicks, it lacks an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option, giving competitors like the Mazda CX-30, Hyundai Kona, and Honda HR-V an obvious advantage. Then again, buyers can always move to the Chevrolet Trailblazer subcompact SUV, which costs significantly more than the Trax but does offer the option of all-wheel drive.
2024 Chevrolet Trax LS: $21,495
The Trax LS emphasizes safety and essential equipment without lots of bells and whistles.
The most impressive standard feature is Chevrolet’s Safety Assist suite. It includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a following distance indicator.
Other safety features include a rear backup camera, a rear seat reminder, a tire-pressure monitor, a tire-fill alert, and front, front side-impact, and side-curtain airbags.
GM’s Teen Driver encourages better driving, with the ability to limit certain features such as radio volume and top speed and prevent certain safety features from being turned off. The system can even produce a monthly report card detailing your teen’s driving habits.
The LS rolls on 17-inch steel wheels and features automatic on/off LED headlights, a rear wiper/washer, remote keyless entry, rear privacy glass, a rear spoiler, and power side mirrors.
Inside, the LS features single-zone manual air conditioning, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, a rear defogger, and express-down power windows.
Cloth upholstery covers the seats, which include 6-way manually adjustable front seats and a 60/40-split folding rear seat.
The LS infotainment system is surprisingly robust, featuring an 8-inch color touchscreen, a 4-speaker AM/FM radio, Bluetooth streaming, voice command, SiriusXM satellite radio, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Inside the front console are two USB ports: Type A and Type C.
LS buyers have a choice of two upgrade packages. The LS Convenience Package adds a remote start, heated front seats, heated side mirrors, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
The Driver Confidence Package brings lane-change alert with a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.
Some dealer-installed options include a Sport pedal kit, a Highway Safety kit, and a keyless entry keypad.

2024 Chevrolet Trax LS includes:
- Wireless connectivity – Allows wireless streaming of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Driver assists – Chevrolet’s Safety Assist suite includes several driver-assist systems designed to help prevent potential accidents.
- Automatic high-beam headlights – These bright LED headlights automatically dim when sensing approaching headlights or spotting taillights directly ahead. Once the coast is clear, the high-beam function automatically resumes.

Although it costs $2,000 more than the LS, the 1RS adds a sportier look to the Trax, plus features we think drivers in northern states will appreciate.
Building off the base LS, the 1RS adds 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels, a remote start, heated front seats, red interior accents, and a flat-bottom heated steering wheel.
The 1RS receives additional exterior styling upgrades, including black Chevy bowtie emblems, a unique grille, black mirror caps, black painted lower fascia, and dark finish crossbars.
Options for the 1RS include the Driver Confidence Package and a power sunroof.

2024 Chevrolet Trax LT: $23,395
The LT isn’t as sporty as the 1RS, but it adds more features to the base LS for nearly the same price. Think of it as the Trax’s luxury trim.
Building off the LS, the LT adds 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels, a remote start, black roof rails, and LED daytime running lamps.
Interior upgrades include a keyless push-button start, automatic climate control, an 8-inch configurable digital color instrument cluster, a rear cargo cover, and cloth seats with Evotex trim.
The LT’s infotainment setup expands to include an 11-inch color touchscreen, a 6-speaker audio system, and two rear charge ports.
The Driver Confidence Package upgrades to include adaptive cruise control, while the LT’s sunroof package adds a wireless charging pad.

2024 Chevrolet Trax 2RS includes:

2024 Chevrolet Trax Activ: $24,995
The top-line Activ trim might sound ready for off-road adventuring, but without an AWD option, it’s just a nicely equipped daily driver designed for paved roads. Still, the Activ includes features not offered on the other trims, so if you like your cars loaded, this is the one for you.
Building off the LT’s standard equipment, the Activ adds 18-inch black alloy wheels, Keyless Open, unique Activ exterior styling, and heated side mirrors.
The cabin gains a 10-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, heated front seats, Evotex upholstery, and a heated steering wheel.
Activ buyers can upgrade their vehicle with the enhanced Driver Confidence Package, a power sunroof, a wireless charging pad, and a few dealer add-ons.
We were hoping for a premium audio upgrade at this level, but sadly, the standard 6-speaker audio system is all Chevrolet offers.
