2024 Ford Escape: Choosing the Right Trim

Built in Kentucky, the Ford Escape was improved last year with a significantly better-looking exterior, a revised interior, and a new trim lineup that included a plug-in hybrid model.

For 2024, Ford’s compact SUV remains largely unchanged, still boasting a 60/40 fold-down seat that slides and offers excellent rear legroom.

There has been one minor lineup change: Last year’s base Escape is now sold only as a fleet vehicle, so it’s not covered here.

That leaves the Escape Active as the new entry-level model for 2024. It’s available with one engine: a turbocharged 1.5-liter 3-cylinder that produces 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. You can order it with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).

Moving up in price and content are the other trim levels of the 2024 Ford Escape: ST-Line, ST-Line Select, ST-Line Elite, Platinum, and PHEV.

Thanks in part to the availability of a 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine that puts out 250 hp, plus the fuel-efficient hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains that both employ a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine, the 2024 Ford Escape competes with a wide variety of SUVs like the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Kia Sportage, plus others such as the Subaru Forester, Nissan Rogue, and Chevrolet Equinox.

Although the 2024 Ford Escape is priced competitively, it doesn’t enjoy the laudable resale values of the Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4.

Prices are current at the time of publishing.

What’s New:

Apart from the base model being moved to fleet-only sales, not much has changed with the Ford Escape for 2024. Race Red has been added as a color, while Cinnabar Red and Atlas Blue have been discontinued.

Our Recommendation:

We’d opt for the Ford Escape ST-Line with the Tech Pack 1. It has an appealingly sporty look, and it comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+, which includes adaptive cruise control, navigation, evasive steering assist, and Sync 4 infotainment with a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen.

2024 Ford Escape Active: $29,345 (FWD), $31,515 (AWD)

While the Ford Escape Active is the price leader for 2024, that doesn’t mean it’s stripped of convenient features.

On the contrary, a power liftgate comes standard, as does dual-zone automatic climate control, rear-seat USB charging ports, an 8-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, and upgraded cloth upholstery. SiriusXM 360L comes standard, as do illuminated vanity mirrors and a sliding rear seat with a fold-down center armrest and cupholders.

Aesthetically, the Escape Active profits from chrome window moldings, 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, dark tinted rear privacy glass, and body-color door handles.

Ford’s Intelligent Access lets you unlock the doors by touching the handle. You also start this Escape with the push of a button, not the twist of a key.

Tech Pack 1 ($995) is an intelligent option. It includes Ford’s Co-Pilot360 Assist+, which adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, traffic sign recognition, navigation, evasive steering assist, rear parking sensors, a digital rearview camera, and a 13.2-inch touchscreen.

Tech Pack 2 ($4,370) ups the ante considerably. It includes Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0, a safety suite featuring Reverse Brake Assist, Intersection Assist (watches for cars about to cross in front of the Escape and alerts the driver), and a 360-degree monitor with Split View and front/rear washers.

Also included in the remarkably extensive Tech Pack 2 option package are a 10-way power driver’s seat, a 6-way power passenger seat, the Cold Weather Package, and a 10-speaker B&O sound system. With Tech Pack 2, you also get a 13.2-inch digital infotainment touchscreen, a hands-free foot-activated liftgate, a wireless charging pad, a 12.3-inch digital gauge display, keypad entry, and memory for the driver’s seat and side mirrors.

Note: The Cold Weather Package (with heated seats, heated steering wheel, remote start, and heated side mirrors) is available only on the FWD Active model.

Among the standalone options on the 2024 Ford Escape Active are a Panoramic Vista Roof ($1,595) and the aforementioned Cold Weather Package ($995) that includes heat for the steering wheel, front seats, and side-view mirrors. The Escape PHEV, available exclusively with FWD, comes well-equipped from Ford. In addition to adaptive cruise control, navigation, intersection assist, and evasive steering assist, it comes standard with rear parking sensors, a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, and heat for the side mirrors, bucket seats, and steering wheel.
