Ford’s popular Maverick, a compact unibody pickup based on a chassis related to that of the Bronco Sport SUV, carries over largely unchanged into the 2024 model year.
With one big change. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost powertrain, featuring a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque, has been made standard on all three trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat. In front-wheel-drive (FWD) EcoBoost models, you get an 8-speed automatic transmission. In all-wheel-drive (AWD) EcoBoost models, the 2024 Maverick gets a 10-speed automatic.
Hybrid fans, fear not: Ford’s 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain, which endows this compact pickup with phenomenal EPA city fuel economy of 40 mpg, remains available as an option on all three trim levels. The hybrid powertrain, with a 2.5-liter gas engine and an electric motor, sends 191 combined horsepower exclusively to the front wheels via a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
Note: AWD isn’t available with the hybrid powertrain. Also, while the payload for both powertrains is an identical 1,500 pounds, only the 2.0-liter EcoBoost model can be ordered with an optional tow package, which bumps the max tow capacity to a decent 4,000 pounds. All Mavericks without the tow package are rated to tow 2,000 pounds.
All Mavericks are crew cab models with a 4.5-foot bed. Pickup trucks like the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado are much larger than this compact Ford, so they aren’t exact competitors. And while Hyundai makes the unibody Santa Cruz pickup on a version of the Tucson chassis, it doesn’t look like a traditional pickup. Nor is its bed as large as the Maverick’s.

What’s New:
The standard powertrain in the 2024 Ford Maverick is now the strong 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder with 250 horsepower. Last year’s standard powertrain, the thrifty hybrid featuring a 2.5-liter gas engine and an electric motor, has become a $1,500 option on all models. The hybrid is available only on FWD versions of the 2024 Maverick.
Our Recommendation:
If you’re often running errands around town in your Maverick, get the hybrid for its outstanding EPA fuel economy of 40 mpg in the city. We’d get the XLT because it priced well below $30,000 and comes with a good level of equipment, especially when you order the XLT Luxury Package.

2024 Ford Maverick XL: $23,400
The entry-level 2024 Ford Maverick XL comes standard with the turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine, front-wheel drive (FWD), and an 8-speed automatic transmission. If you want an AWD version, it’s available for an extra $2,200.
Buyers with an eye toward excellent fuel economy should consider a Maverick XL with the 2.5-liter hybrid engine. When you order this $1,500 option, you get a 191-hp hybrid powertrain that enables this Maverick to return a satisfying 40 mpg in the city.
For the record, the Maverick hybrid is sold exclusively as front-drive model with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Its fuel tank, at 13.8 gallons, is a bit smaller than the 2.0-liter Maverick’s, at 16.5 gallons.
Owing to its rather basic nature, the Maverick XL has cloth upholstery and manual front seats, but it also comes standard with air conditioning, a rotary dial shifter, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and an electric parking brake. Additionally, the XL gets cruise control, a locking tailgate, automatic on/off LED headlights, a cargo lamp, remote keyless entry, rear privacy glass and a mini spare tire.
We like how the rear bench seat features a flip-up cushion that reveals two plastic storage bins that are perfect for stowing gear or hiding valuables (only one bin on the hybrid).
For safety, the Maverick XL includes a forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, a rearview monitor, automatic high-beam headlights, trailer sway control, and a tire-pressure monitor.
Additional interior amenities include a 4.2-inch productivity screen, one USB-A and one USB-C port, two 12-volt outlets (one front and one rear), front and rear grab handles, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with controls for the cruise, audio, and Bluetooth.
The XL also offers a Tow Package on 2.0-liter EcoBoost models. It bumps the tow capacity up to 4,000 pounds (from 2,000). In addition to slightly lower final-drive gearing (AWD only) the Tow Package includes a Trailer Brake Control, a transmission oil cooler, a high capacity radiator, and an upgraded cooling fan.
As in 2023, Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 continues to be available on the Maverick XL. Joining a lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist are a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.
Notable standalone options on the 2024 Ford Maverick XL include locking rails in the bed, a full-size spare tire, a bed extender, and a trailer hitch with a 4-pin connector.
With the $1,595 delivery charge, the 2024 Ford Maverick XL costs $24,995. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, your monthly payment will come to $472. See the 2024 Ford Maverick XL for sale near you
2024 Ford Maverick XL includes:
- 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine – This turbocharged 2.0-liter engine is now standard in all 2024 Ford Mavericks. When paired with the optional Tow Package, the Maverick XL can tow up to 4,000 pounds.
- Hybrid powertrain – You can still order a Maverick XL hybrid. A $1,500 option, this 2.5-liter gas/electric hybrid powertrain puts out 191 total hp while endowing the Maverick XL with outstanding EPA city fuel economy of 40 mpg.
- Automatic high-beams – These LED headlights automatically intensify in dark stretches but dim automatically when sensing headlights or taillights ahead.
2024 Ford Maverick XLT: $26,315
The XLT is our choice because you get a few more features while keeping the price well below $30,000. In addition to 17-inch alloy wheels, power side mirrors and a storage cubby in the passenger side of the bed, you get a power-locking tailgate and wiper-activated headlights.
What’s more, Ford’s SecuriCode keyless access pad comes standard on the Maverick XLT, along with upgraded cloth upholstery and a rear seat center armrest with cupholders.
Perhaps more significant: The XLT opens the 2024 Ford Maverick to more customization through several packages and standalone options.
The XLT Luxury Package ($2,220) catches our attention with its power driver’s seat and 400-watt inverter, but you also get heated seats, heated mirrors, rear USB ports, LED box lighting, remote start, a trailer hitch, and hard drop-in plastic bed liner.
The Tremor Off-Road Package ($3,495) also deserves a look. Besides off-road suspension and Trail Control (which acts like slow-motion cruise control), you get 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires and a locking 4WD system with a locking center differential. Furthering the cause are a heavy-duty transmission cooler, front skid plates, an off-road screen in the instrument cluster, and additional dirt settings for the Tremor’s Drive Select Modes.
On the outside, the Tremor makes its presence known with a new front bumper that improves the approach angles. It also gets black chrome surrounding the headlights and taillights. Orange front tow hooks and orange accents in the grille, side vents, and interior help to complete the Tremor look.
If you don’t want to go quite as aggressively off-road, consider the FX4 package. For only $800, it includes 17-inch wheels, A/T tires, front tow hooks, hill descent control, an off-road screen in the instrument cluster, skid plates, a high-capacity radiator, an upgraded cooling fan, and two additional Drive Select Modes: Mud/Rut and Sand.
With the $1,595 delivery charge, the 2024 Ford Maverick XLT costs $27,910. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $527. See the 2024 Ford Maverick XLT for sale near you
2024 Ford Maverick XLT includes:
- Cubby storage – This covered passenger-side storage compartment in the XLT’s bed is perfect for the likes of gloves, ropes, tie-downs, or bungee cords.
- FX4 Package – This option package brings additional off-road capability and protection for Maverick owners who occasionally like to venture off the beaten path.
- Tremor Off-Road Package – If you’re a bit more serious about your adventures on terra firma, the Tremor is more capable than the FX4. Has cooler paint and graphics, too.
2024 Ford Maverick Lariat: $34,855
The best-equipped Ford Maverick? The Lariat. It comes standard with a wireless smartphone charger, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED signature lighting, body-color door handles and mirror caps, and an additional in-bed cubby storage.
More significantly, the 2024 Maverick Lariat also gains the contents of the Lariat Luxury Package, which was an option last year. That means the top Maverick for 2024 now comes standard with the 8-speaker B&O audio system, a 400-watt inverter, heated seats, heated side mirrors, a heated steering wheel, and LED box lighting.
But that’s not all. The 2024 Maverick Lariat also gets Sync 3 infotainment with an 8-inch touchscreen, voice-activated navigation, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Lariat buyers also receive a trailer hitch, a full-size spare tire, and a proximity key fob that lets you unlock the Maverick merely by touching its door handle.
Strangely, the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and windshield wiper de-icer, both standard last year, have been dropped from the Maverick Lariat for 2024.
Once inside, though, there’s still plenty to appreciate in the Maverick Lariat. This includes a power driver’s seat, ActivX upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power sliding rear window, an acoustic windshield, and ambient interior lighting.
Also notable: Besides a full assortment of airbags including side-impact curtains, the 2024 Ford Maverick Lariat comes standard with the Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist Package. This suite, which builds on the Co-Pilot360 suite, adds adaptive cruise control (with stop-and-go and lane centering), evasive steering assist, and rear parking sensors.
Lastly, for those of us who enjoy exploring dirt roads while in the lap of luxury, we’re happy to report that Ford offers is selling an off-road-friendly Tremor version of the Maverick Lariat for the same $34,855 asking price.
With the $1,595 delivery charge, the 2024 Ford Maverick Lariat costs $36,450. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to about $688. See 2024 the Ford Maverick Lariat for sale near you

- Adaptive cruise control – This advanced cruise control, now standard on the Lariat, maintains a pre-set gap to the vehicle ahead on the highway, slowing or speeding as needed.
