In the world of large luxury sedans, only a handful are powered solely by electrons. The 2024 Genesis Electrified G80 is one of them, offering a more detailed interior than you find in a Tesla EV and a price that undercuts high-fliers like the Mercedes-Benz EQS and Porsche Taycan.
The Genesis Electrified G80 is powered by two electric motors hooked to an 87.2-kilowatt-hour battery, which can recharge in as little as 22 minutes when hooked up to a 350-kilowatt DC fast charging station. Their combined output is 365 horsepower, with an estimated maximum range of 282 miles. The Electrified G80 can even reverse electric power from the vehicle, allowing you to use it as a battery to run electric appliances and even power your home.
While the Electrified G80 isn’t necessarily a sports sedan, we found it thoroughly enjoyable on winding mountain roads, aided by excellent grip and precise steering. It was also fun to experiment with the adjustable regenerative braking. Via paddles on the steering wheel, you can cycle from no regen to a setting that allows one-pedal driving.
The electric car field is growing, meaning buyers can choose from several luxury brands, some more expensive than the Genesis Electrified G80 and some less. The Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4 and i5 cost less, while the Porsche Taycan and Mercedes-Benz EQS are considerably more.

2024 Genesis Electrified G80 Advanced: $74,375
If you’re familiar with the G80 luxury sedan, the EV version should feel like an old friend. The two cars are nearly identical, save for the Electrified G80’s unique front-end styling, G-matrix-patterned grille, and vivid 19-inch turbine-style wheels.
One feature not available on the G80 EV is a power sunroof. Due to the slightly raised floor height needed to accommodate the battery pack, a sunroof would worsen the already snug headroom situation. Sorry, sun lovers. Trunk volume and rear-seat legroom also suffer a bit compared to the standard gas-powered G80 because of the battery and rear-mounted motor.
Other features exclusive to the Electrified G80 include an electronically controlled suspension with road preview (interprets road conditions ahead and adjusts the shock settings accordingly), i-Pedal single-pedal driving mode, a smart regenerative braking system with three deceleration settings, and a unique digital gauge cluster with an i-Pedal symbol and regenerative braking gauge.
Genesis is proud of the Electrified G80’s safety record, earning an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick + accolade for the 2023 model year. Along with its impressive crash test scores and occupant protection systems, the Electrified G80 includes a phalanx of standard driver-assist systems.
The Advanced trim features automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic assist, Highway Driving Assist, semi-autonomous driving system, adaptive cruise control, speed limit assist, driver attention warning, automatic high beams, parking sensors, safe exit assist, and rear occupant alert.
A quick lap around the exterior reveals power-folding and auto-dimming heated side mirrors, LED headlights and taillights, a proximity key fob, rain-sensing wipers, power door closers, and a hands-free smart trunk with power open.
The Advanced interior is a mind-blowing combination of textures, design, and technology. It includes leather upholstery, matte wood trim, a leatherette-wrapped upper instrument panel, and exquisitely styled features such as the aluminum grilles covering the speakers and the rotary gear selector.
The driver sits in a 16-way massaging power front seat with 4-way power lumbar support, power side bolsters, a cushion extender, and memory. The passenger must get by with a lesser 12-way setup, including 4-way power lumbar support. Both front seats are heated and ventilated, and the passenger seat includes side buttons that move it forward, allowing the rear seat passenger easier entry and exit.
Additional amenities include a heated power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, an 8-inch digital cluster with analog-style gauges, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient interior lighting, a head-up display, and a wireless charging pad.
The Genesis Digital Key turns your phone into a key, allowing you to share permission to enter and drive your Electrified G80 with friends or family. The app also allows remote locking, unlocking, and starting and the ability to adjust alarm settings and open the trunk.
The Advanced infotainment system is equally impressive, with a 14.5-inch touchscreen housing wired Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, SiriusXM, and HD Radio. You also get a 1,050-watt 21-speaker Lexicon premium audio system, active noise control, and four USB ports.
Opt for the Prestige Package ($4,750) and you’ll get rear automatic braking, Nappa leather upholstery, a microfiber headliner and pillars, 3-zone automatic climate control, and a power rear sunshade with manual rear door shades, plus a 360-degree Surround View Monitor, a Blind-Spot View Monitor (shows an image of the adjacent lane when signaling a left or right turn), and a 12.3-inch 3D digital instrument cluster.
The package also includes Genesis’ Remote Smart Parking Assist, which lets you remotely move the Electrified G80 in and out of tight parking spots via an app on your phone. A Forward Attention Warning system monitors the driver’s eye to detect distracted or inattentive driving.
