2024 Honda Accord: Choosing the Right Trim

The 2024 Honda Accord is tough to beat as a family sedan. It has a reputation for near-bullet-proof reliability and excellent resale figures while having a clean and accommodating cabin and timeless styling that never seems to grow old or outdated.

Honda offers the Accord with a choice of two engines. The low-cost LX and EX trims get a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that sends 192 horsepower to the front wheels via a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).

Moving up the Sport, Sport L, EX-L, and Touring trims bring a hybrid powertrain with a 2.0-liter gas engine and two electric motors. A total output of 204 hp and fuel economy ratings of 46 mpg in the city (51 mpg for the EX-L) make the added cost worth every penny.

Competition is fierce in this segment, and the Accord must still battle with its longtime rival, the Toyota Camry, which offers one thing the Accord still doesn’t have: available all-wheel drive (AWD). The Nissan Altima also offers AWD, which comes standard on the Subaru Legacy. The Kia K5 doesn’t have all-wheel drive, but the significantly updated 2024 Hyundai Sonata will be available with AWD and a hybrid powertrain.

What’s New:

Coming off a significant redesign last year, the 2024 Honda Accord remains unchanged. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic detection rejoin the safety systems. The 2023 model offered buyers the option of adding them or taking a credit, mainly due to the chip shortage.

Our Recommendation:

The Honda Accord EX-L brings everything you need in a family car, including a powerful hybrid engine with the best fuel economy figures in the lineup. The Sport trim appeals to those seeking a racier sedan, while the Touring is a technology lover’s delight.

2024 Honda Accord LX: $27,895

The LX is the first of six trims, a humble sedan offering just the basics.

Standard fare includes auto on/off LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, variable wipers, power side mirrors, and active grille shutters that close at high speeds to help improve aerodynamics.

Honda’s Smart Entry system includes a proximity key fob that lets the Accord LX driver unlock the doors by touching the handle and start the car with a push of a button without taking the fob from their purse or pocket. Walking away from the base Honda Accord signals the system to lock the doors automatically. The fob can also remotely open the trunk.

The LX cabin has durable cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats with driver’s side height adjustment, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.

LX amenities include single-zone automatic climate control, one-touch up/down front power windows, push-button start, cruise control, dual illuminated front console USB-C ports, and a single-piece fold-down rear seatback.

The LX’s infotainment system features a 7-inch touchscreen with physical volume and tuning knobs, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, an available Wi-Fi hot spot, and HondaLink integration. A 160-watt audio system with four speakers brings it all to life.

Most impressive to us is the LX’s standard safety and driver-assist systems. As part of the HondaSensing technologies suite, the LX has forward collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow. Also included are lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, a rearview monitor, traffic sign recognition, and traffic-jam assist. Oddly, a blind-spot monitor is not part of the package, although you’ll find it on the EX and above.

Additional safety upgrades include rear-seat side-impact airbags, front-knee airbags, a rear-seat reminder, a remote vehicle locator, and a remote engine immobilizer.

With the $1,095 destination charge, the 2024 Honda Accord LX costs $28,990. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $547. See 2024 Honda Accord LX models for sale near you

2024 Honda Accord EX: $29,910

The 2024 Honda Accord EX shares the LX’s engine and CVT transmission but adds more features, making the roughly $2,000 premium money well spent.

The Sport’s infotainment system gets upgraded to a massive 12.3-inch color touchscreen featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Alexa built-in.

Other details setting the Accord Sport apart are two additional driver-selectable drive modes (Sport and Individual), blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic detection.
