2024 Honda HR-V: Choosing the Right Trim

Arriving with no significant changes for 2024, the Honda HR-V continues to lure younger buyers looking for a small SUV that’s easy on gas, doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, and will hold its value over time.

While Honda likes to point out that the HR-V is the most popular choice among first-time and Gen Z buyers, the HR-V is perfect for buyers of all ages, including empty nesters looking to downsize.

The HR-V comes in three trims: LX, Sport, and EX-L. All employ the same 158-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that sends power to the front wheels. All-wheel drive (AWD) is optional on every trim.

Competitors abound for the Honda HR-V. Varying rivals include the Toyota Corolla Cross, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Seltos, Chevrolet Trax, and Mazda CX-30.

What’s New:

Some early production Sport and EX-L models may see the blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert feature offered as an optional package. Although listed as standard on both trims, supply chain issues have forced Honda to provide a $550 credit or the option to pay full price and have the systems added by the dealer later. Besides a slight price increase this year, the 2024 Honda HR-V arrives nearly identical to last year’s model.

2024 Honda HR-V LX: $24,100 (FWD), $25,600 (AWD)

If you’re a frequent Honda buyer, you know the LX is the least expensive trim in the brand’s lineup. In the past, buying an LX meant getting a bare-bones vehicle. But that’s no longer the case.

The LX story starts with safety, or more precisely, the Honda Sensing suite of standard driver assist systems. Forward collision warning with pedestrian detection is a welcome feature, as are automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow.

Traffic Jam Assist combines lane-keeping with adaptive cruise control, allowing the car to steer, brake, and accelerate in low-speed bumper-to-bumper traffic. Traffic Sign Recognition posts an icon in the cluster detailing the posted speed limit.

Automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, a multi-angle rearview camera, and rear-seat side-impact airbags are unexpected in a base model but always welcome.

Standard Hill Descent Control maintains a low speed when descending steep hills, while Hill Start Assist keeps the HR-V from rolling forward or backward when stopped on a steep incline.

Moving to the exterior, we again find a roster of features uncommon on a base model. They include auto on/off LED headlights, a color-keyed rear spoiler, and a reverse-linked rear wiper that activates while backing up when the front wipers are turned on.

Additional exterior elements include power side mirrors, 17-inch silver-painted wheels, remote keyless entry, and LED taillights.

Moving to the cabin, the LX again surprises with automatic climate control, a push-button starter, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with integrated cruise, Bluetooth, and audio controls.

Handsome cloth-covered seats include a manually height-adjustable driver’s seat and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. Also standard is an auto up/down driver’s window, power door locks, and sliding sun visors with vanity mirrors.

A 7-inch driver information screen mimics an analog speedometer and tachometer. It can also be configured to provide a digital speedometer or information regarding the adaptive cruise control, Traffic Sign Recognition system, and other pertinent information.

The LX’s infotainment system comprises a 180-watt, 4-speaker audio system hooked to a 7-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, along with HondaLink apps. You also get active noise cancellation to help quiet the cabin.

Missing from the system is the option for SiriusXM satellite radio. The only trim that offers it is the most expensive EX-L. However, you can stream the service using CarPlay or Auto if you have the app on your phone.

Charging and connectivity come from three USB-A ports, with two charge ports in the center console and one charge/data port in the front console.

With the $1,295 destination fee, the 2024 Honda HR-V LX costs $25,395. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $479. See 2024 Honda HR-V LX models for sale near you

2024 Honda HR-V LX includes:

  • Automatic high-beam headlights – The LX automatically dims its high beams when sensing approaching cars. They also turn on automatically in low-light situations.
  • Adaptive cruise control – This advanced cruise control system maintains a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and can even work in low-speed stop-and-go traffic.
  • Automatic climate control – The LX’s climate system automatically holds the desired temperature.

2024 Honda HR-V Sport: $26,200 (FWD), $27,700 (AWD)

The Sport trim adds more style and equipment to the HR-V.

Building off the LX, the Honda HR-V Sport brings gloss-black heated side mirrors, 18-inch gloss black wheels, a sport grille, a gloss-black rear spoiler, and dark-tinted rear privacy glass.

Honda’s Smart Entry keyless entry lets you unlock the doors by touching the inside of either front door handle. Once the system detects you and the key fob have moved away from the vehicle, the doors automatically lock.

A remote start feature built into the key fob comes standard.

Interior improvements on the 2024 Honda HR-V Sport include heated Sport front seats with orange stitching, orange stitching on the doors and center console trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and auto up/down power front windows.

The audio system gains two more speakers for a total of six.

Due to supply chain issues, the standard blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic assist come in an optional package to be added later by the dealer. Honda is issuing a $550 credit to compensate customers who choose not to upgrade.

With the $1,295 destination fee, the 2024 Honda HR-V Sport costs $27,495. On a 60-month loan at 5% financing and $0 down, the monthly payment comes to $519. See 2024 Honda HR-V Sport models for sale near you

2024 Honda HR-V Sport includes:

  • Heated side mirrors – Heating elements behind the mirrors activate when activating the rear defroster, helping prevent snow and ice buildup.
  • Remote start – You can remotely start the HR-V within 100 feet of the vehicle using the key fob.
  • Available blind-spot monitor – This technology keeps an eye out for cars riding in the vehicle’s blind spot and alerts the driver of their presence visually and audibly.

2024 Honda HR-V EX-L: $28,200 (FWD), $29,700 (AWD)

The best-equipped Honda HR-V is the EX-L. It’s the little SUV for people with big aspirations.

The Honda Sensing system gains low-speed brake control that can stop the vehicle when sensing objects in front or behind.

A larger 9-inch touchscreen replaces the 7-inch screen in the other trims. It features customizable settings and smart shortcuts. Additional upgrades include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hot spot, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD Radio, and a 180-watt 8-speaker audio system.

FAQ

  • What is the best 2024 Honda HR-V Trim trim?

We think the Honda HR-V Sport is the way to go if you’re looking for a distinctive ride at a reasonable price. It definitely stands out in a crowd and has a few more added luxury and safety features we think everyone will want. However, the EX-L’s additional safety systems and luxury touches only add another $2,000 to the bottom line, making it a very desirable runner-up.

  • How many miles per gallon does the 2024 Honda HR-V get?

In front-drive form, the Honda HR-V is rated by the EPA at 28 mpg combined figure (26 mpg city/32 mpg highway). Adding all-wheel drive lowers that to 27 mpg combined (25 mpg city/30 mpg highway).

  • Which 2024 Honda HR-V trim offers the most safety?

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has given the Honda HR-V top marks in every crash test category and awarded it a Top Safety Pick + accolade.

However, if you’re looking for the trim with the most advanced safety systems, that would be the HR-V EX-L.
